Unhappy Vizio v series 4k tv issue

Hi

Does anyone know which setting is causing something like this.

this isn't my photo but it's exactly what i'm experiencing.

i mostly notice these cloudy posterization/color banding issues against uniform surfaces while playing games on ps5. it's even worse in motion. i've tried messing with every setting and configuration in-game and on my tv. no clue .
it doesn't happen when i'm watching UHDs/BDs/streaming stuff. mostly just gaming.

any help would be appreciated. i can list out my calibration settings if that'd help

Are you using a separate 4K UHD Blu-ray player to watch your movies, or are you using your game console to play everything? What is your equipment?

for UHDs i use my ps5, no issue with the picture quality or at least not as bad as the above screenshot (where some games really do look like that).
when i go to test the color tuner against a solid white background it looks great without any sort of clouding. so i'm at a loss.
i thought it might have to do with hdr. but then i turned off hdr in death stranding (ps5 game) and the issue was still there.

for normal blu's i use a separate region free sony player. no issues, if there are it's minor and i don't notice it.

my tv is a Vizio V series 40" V405-H19 https://www.vizio.com/en/tv/v-series/V405-H19

added note: it's definitely across all consoles and devices connected to this tv. it doesn't happen when the image is 'busy', but rather when there's a solid color. weird wavey posterization :\

It all consoles are being affected, it sounds like there's a problem with the TV.

It does seem like there’s something funky going on with your settings as, at least according to rtings, that model should handle gradients better than that.

And you said it happens with all devices (player and PS5) and content (movies and games)?

Does it happen with all solid colors or only certain ones?

If it happens with all devices/content and all solid colors, either there’s a setting that is causing the TV to mishandle colors, or the TV is faulty.

just got off the phone with vizio. did the usual trouble shooting that i've tried a million times before.
think they are going to see if i qualify for a warranty after i send them photos. what an ordeal.

it's not all solid colors. i think it's just grey's and blacks i think. it's weird.

changing the brightness and contrast seems to lower the intensity of it, but i'm not sure if that's the solution. there's the color calibration setting, but i have no clue how that's supposed to be set.

If itís just grays and near-blacks it could also be that TV model just doesnít handle those colors well gradients-wise. I havenít seen a TV handle them that badly though. So I would still try to see if they can do something about it. If you get a replacement and it also has trouble handling those colors then it is indeed very likely that specific model just doesnít handle those colors well.

If Vizio tried to help you troubleshoot the tv without any success, that's not good because they're the manufacturer. The type of defect that's incurring is one of the signs of a bad panel, and that can be very expensive to repair if the tv is out of warranty. The cost to repair the panel is same as a new tv, but if Vizio is offering to assist to repair or replace the tv, that will be a great benefit to you because there won't be any out-of-pocket expenses. How long have you had the tv?

The problem is more critical than that, and a calibration is not going to resolve it. I think its a panel issue.

a little over a year. i'm not sure how long the issue has been going on though. this is my bedroom tv, and i've mostly watched blu-rays/UHDs on it without noticing anything. as i mentioned, when the screen is busy, it's not noticeable.
it came to my attention a few months ago when i was playing death stranding on ps5. and then i started to notice it on other ps5 and switch games. then when i closely examined BDs/UHDs (both on stand alone players and ps5), i could sorta see it too in darker/shadow-y scenes.

i'll work with vizio and see what they can do. thanks all for the replies.
