Default Garbage

Are there any Garbage fans here? I have been listening them a lot recently and they are one of my favorite bands. They are releasing their seventh album No Gods No Masters on 11th June:

New music video was released today:

I'm very excited about this. That song is great but I'm not sure about the video. They probably couldn't film a proper video because of covid. My favorite albums are the debut album and Version 2.0.

Great post - and Thanks for letting me know about the forthcoming album, which I wasn't aware of before now.

I've been a huge fan of Garbage since the '90's. I remember really looking forward to Version 2.0, and getting the CD @ Best Buy the week of it's release in May '98.

I was in my 20's throughout the '90's, and their angsty-like music was right up my alley. Circa '96, I remember talking to an older co-worker about music, and telling her that I liked listening to Garbage. And, she initially thought I was talking about the type of music I liked, not the band by that name - LOL.

I think their strongest albums are their first three, i.e. their debut, Version 2.0, and Beautiful Garbage (2001). Though, I like their later stuff too, and have all of their albums.

Too many great songs to list, but some favorites include:

Supervixen
Only Happy when it Rains[
Push it
When I Grow up
I think I'm Paranoid
Shut Your Mouth
Cup of Coffee
Cherry Lips (Go Baby Go!)
Untouchable
Why Do you Love Me
Not Your Kind of People
Hammering in my Head

The World Is Not Enough was another great Garbage song from their heyday; this was the theme song for the Bond film of the same name (1999):

I became a fan when the song Not Your Kind of People was in Metal Gear Solid V trailer in 2013. I had heard the Bond theme before that but didn't know much about them. This is my favorite song:

Love them. Seen the band twice and Shirley Manson is hilarious onstage. Can't wait for the album.

Yes, TTITKB is an incredible track, from their second & IMHO best/strongest album (Version 2.0). Their first two albums exemplify the '90's to me, so these songs are very nostalgic. Great times.

New music video:

Both songs are great but I think this is better. I really like the video.

Saw them open for SP in 1998. I am a huge SP fan, but honestly, Garbage blew them away. Saw them on their own tour at a smaller club and they were equally awesome. I have always had a massive crush on Shirley.

I've seen them four times since 1998, most recently was back when "Strange Little Birds" was released. Always a phenomenal show.

Love the new single, and the first one is growing on me pretty quickly.

Welcome back, Garbage!

Iím also a huge fan of Garbage. The song that got my attention was Only Happy When It Rains.

A really underrated song! I used to have this song on repeat hundreds of times!

The new album is very good. I think its better than Strange Little Birds. My favorite songs right now are Uncomfortably Me and This City Will Kill You.

I believe three members are from my city, Madison, WI, and they recorded at least the first two albums here.
They were here a few years back and I stood outside in the frigid cold to meet them all. Got them all to sign a band 8x10. Got a pic with Shirley but its very orange from the bad lighting behind the venue.

Haven't picked up the new album yet, but I shall at some point.

Debating going on a road trip in September to go see them open for Alanis.

Garbage announce 20th anniversary reissue of ‘Beautiful Garbage’:
https://www.nme.com/news/music/garba...arbage-3021385

Quote:
The special reissue of the record will arrive exactly two decades on from its initial release – on Friday October 1, 2021 – and is set to boast a previously unheard version of the album’s lead single ‘Androgyny’ (listen below).

Available to pre-order in a range of formats here, the new version of ‘Beautiful Garbage’ will feature the original album in remastered audio as well as B-sides, demos, remixes and memorabilia.

“We wanted to celebrate the release of our third album in the same manner as we have celebrated the 20th anniversaries of our previous two records, as we cherish this third child of ours just as much as its predecessors,” Manson explained in a statement.

“Over time it has garnered more and more respect from our fans, with many of the songs remaining in rotation in our live sets to this day. We’ve always felt incredibly proud of this record and felt it was in many ways very much ahead of its time.”

She continued: “Twenty years down the line, we are all exceedingly grateful to have such well-crafted songs in our discography and are very proud that against all the odds we are still standing and can give our beloved album the tribute it so very much deserves.”

I liked the band's song for the Bond film The World Is Not Enough, and also Shirley's portrayal of a T-1001 on The Sarah Connor Chronicles. But otherwise, I haven't kept up with Garbage.
