Same for me when I bought that version last year. The disc wasn't scratched or even worse, loose in the case, it was packaged well. It's unbelievable how many times I've grabbed a movie at a store and can hear the disc sliding around in there.

I hate that. I got disappointed at FYE more than a few times over the past few weeks with loose discs in the case. They went right back in the rack.

As some others have mentioned in their reviews there are a few seconds missing. I am pleasantly surprised by the lack of specks and dirt. Forgotten Films must be working with a very good source. This is the best I have ever seen the film look.

As for supporting Romero...

I own Night, Dawn, and Day on VHS (Anchor Bay versions). Then I own all three on DVD and double dipped with Dawn by getting the multi-disc version. Now I own Dawn and Day on Blu and Land Of The Dead on HD-DVD.

If Criterion or someone else wants to partner up with Romero on some sort of definitive version of this amazing flick I will gladly open up my wallet. Until then I am thankful to have such a high quality version to enjoy.

It has the best PQ and a decent amount of extras. It's not completely perfect but it is still a solid option.

Plus the black case is a nice touch.

No, the Splendid version is not cropped but not as clean and nice as the other versions.

The Happinet or what? 'Clean and nice' entails what exactly? Proper film grain compression and reproduction?

Just looked up on DVDCompare.net as it seems the 30th Anniversary has its own cut which is 95:53 aka 96m. Never have watched that particular cut before.

EDIT: I'm a bit disappointed Night of the Living Bread already exists. I wanted to make a parody if I ever had a dream movie studio. Maybe Dawn of the Living Bread!
EDIT EDIT: Those JP releases of DAWN OF THE DEAD (1978) are far too expensive for my liking.

I know and it counts as an 'Upgrade' for me since I believe I last owned the Millenium or Anchor Bay DVD. The one where it had different covers but it was the same exact disc inside. But I sold it off in the early 2000's though.
Should I get it from Amazon JP or CDJapan? Since there are titles on both sites which are in my Wishlists which certainly count towards the Upgrades part of my collection.

Just not as clean looking as the Happinet version, but we are cleaning it up ourselves to have the best of all versions available.

Network release is from a screening print and has stuff missing as well as being poor quality. They didn't intentionally cut it, that's just how the print they used is. They tried to provide an uncropped alternative to the other transfer but it didn't quite work out alas.

Australian release is region free, uses the cropped but good quality Optimum and Happinet master but the extras are PAL so you might not be able to play those.
