It took some wheeling and dealing at BB but I walked away with (well not with as they dont carry these in store but it will be delievered next week) with the Sony HDR-SR12 camcorder for $1150 which is actually $50 cheaper than what they are selling the SR11 for. I am looking forward to getting it next week and playing with it a bit. Now I just need to decide on Sony Vegas, Nero or Pinnacle (i think) for software to edit and burn. Anyone have preferences on the 3?

Ok i am on monoprice right now trying to buy the mini hdmi cable, battery and memory card for the sr12 but I am a bit confused on the memory card. The camcorder says it is compatible with memory stick duo or memory stick pro duo. i do not see these listed on monoprice of course but I figure that is just sony's way to make more money is to only list their memory sticks. My question is monoprice has Micro SD (Micro Secure Digital), SD (Secure Digital), SD 150X (Secure Digital 150X) and SDHC (Secure Digital High-Capacity), will any of these work with the sr12? or is there a difference btw a memory stick and a flash card? If so which of these 4 categories should i be looking at? Thanks.

I don't think you will really need a card for it.... on the highest quality setting (1080x1920 @ 16mbs) you will get 14hrs and 40mins. No card will offer a significant percentage of that in my opinion.

Well the card wouldnt really be for recording, it would be for pictures i think? The camera just came in the mail today but i havent had a chance to open it up yet and see what it is made of.

the cam will keep the stills separate from the video files, it's easy to import either, using photo or video software.

I got the HDR-SR11 off Amazon about 3 weeks ago. I am currently looking for a nice case to go with it. I will be doing some traveling in the Summer, and I am looking for something small, comfortable and compact. Do you have any suggestions??
Thanks |

I bought the SR11 yesterday and the PQ is fantastic when I shoot something outside. When I shoot my daughter in the house doing something the PQ is horrible. Very grainy and lots of "noise". It is a low light condition but I didn't expect the PQ to be this bad. I am recording in HD 1920x1080 and I am hooking it up to a Sony 52XBR4 via HDMI. Are any of you guys noticing the same thing? Are my setting wrong or is this just a bad camera for low light? I don't want to take it back but the image is unaccaptable. Any help would be appreciated.

HDR-SR12 is the best consumer camcorder in 2008... if purchasing in April 09, wait for the Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas - Jan 09

I have been looking into the SR12 and I don't know, for starters it records in 1080i, not P
on top of that, the clerk to whom I ask info told me that it needs some program to be recognised by your computer meaning that you can't download straight to your PS3 harddrive from the camcorder (is this true ?) Also it has a 5 Lux sensitivity which is not bad but considering the price and the levels of technology we have in 2008, it could do better (3 or even 2 Lux) And finally over here it's way overpriced 1499 Euros (2200 dollars) Last edited by quexos; 08-21-2008 at 02:24 PM. |

Quexos, the SR12 is the best consumer camcorder on the market. Forget the i/p thing, get it, and when something better comes out, sell the SR12 and buy the new P version. It will be at least around April 09 before something better comes out.

Haven't had a chance to test it yet but I just received my SR11 yesterday which is the same as the Sony SR12 except 60GB HD as opposed to 120GB HD. 60GB in it's highest quality still provides 7 hours of filming before you have to do anything with it. There is no trip that I go on where 7 hours wouldn't be enough. That's probably because I'm too busy also shooting a thousand digital pictures and can't do both at the same time.

Today or tomorrow, we will see what the 2009 lineup should look like, so it's no surprises that prices are dropping right now.
