Despite latest firmware update for Panasonic BluRay player, can't play LaLaLand BluRay.

Have you looked at what Sony calls a heat sink in this unit? Looks like two pieces of foam to a piece of tin. looks like it was made to fail; right out of warranty of course. After replacing with a real heat sink no more problems. Are other manufactures this cheap?

I suppose either way someone in the industry wont answer that question in the affirmative or negative lol

Not asking for an exact number since it would depend greatly on the instructions being processed, but I assume that there must be some sort of "low end benchmark" for BD-j developers to look at to make sure their code runs in a timely manner. I'm guessing the 1st gen units like the Samsung BDP-1000 would probably be the lowest common denominator in this case?

I have got a BD-J project, all built, all play tested & perfect and it passes Eclipse ImageAnalysis as well - just a minor "warning" about an invalid ISAN number but we are not using managed copy.
Optimal GmbH have failed me with the attached reason that they are either unable or unwilling to explain to me.

What have I done wrong, or is this yet another false fail from AF Verify? (we had a previous one "fail" when protected by Allatori obfuscator as AF claimed certain files were missing when in fact they were present, but capitalised (which makes no difference in UDF) -- we got that oone fixed by correcting for the bug in AF, but this one has me well stumped and I am desperate for an answer here as the record label are not at all happy.

I have a BD-J releated question to any Blu-ray insider out there, if anyone is still following this thread.

Isn't it true that part of the intention with BD-J was to have games?

If yes, then why aren't developers encouraged more to dive into BD-J development?

I'm personally intrigued by BD-J game dev, and have made a simple proof-of-concept game (port of a MIDP game of mine) just to disprove a lot of false claims I found here and there. Nothing special, just a short example. Here's a YouTube video:

I've also made another BD-J project called "8-bit Memoirs"; an eBook that you read on your TV with background music and lots of supplemental videos. See http://www.8bitMemoirs.com if interested.

I've since been trying hard to find other BD-J (hobby) devs, but just haven't been able to find anyone. Forums seems to have died, and it seems everyone but me have lost interest in BD-J. It also kinda feels like Blu-ray Disc Association isn't really interested in anyone doing any BD-J stuff?

I tried posting about it on java-gaming.org; explaining that it was possible to make games for PS3 + PS4 + XB1 using Java. Everyone was real excited - but yet no one seemed to jump onboard.

I'm still hooked to do more BD-J games, but sadly I don't have a lot of sparetime, and it's also a bit discouraging to feel like I'm the only one having the interest.

Are there any other (hobby) BD-J devs out there interested in game dev with BD-J? Where are you hanging out online?

Yes I agree. There ought to be a "Blu-ray Game" category here on blu-ray.com, about games developed with BD-J.

But of course, there aren't many titles (that I know of - but I'm hoping there are more I don't know of). Still though...

I can only ask "why?"... I'm honestly not a fan of bdj, especially as it generally means either none or spotty disc resume capability, which is just woeful for tv series.

BDJ is one thing that makes me want to rip all my discs and play from a clean source.

Don't blame BD-J for lack of resume capability.

It is true that most (all?) Blu-ray players don't have a built-in resume function like DVD players have. This is because of a design decision that each disc should have its own resume functionality. Programmers should handle resume functionality with BD-J yes - if they want it. I agree that they should always do this, but sadly they don't. That's not the fault of BD-J though (anymore than an accident is the fault of the car).

When they do add it, it is far superior to DVD resume capabilities though. In these cases the player will remember which episode on which disc you came to even months after you played it last. And then ask you to insert the right disc while the picture stays on the TV. Nikita series does this. It's awesome. And you can't do that with DVD.

I recently saw "The Guns of Navarone". Also a good example of how it should be done. As soon as the disc was inserted, it asked me if I wanted to resume. That's how it should be done.

I love when they've done this right, and like you I'm disappointed when they haven't.

I will agree that Blu-ray players could/should have included their own resume functionality as well. Just because programmers can do it with BD-J shouldn't exclude other ways of doing it too. A Blu-ray player could easily have its own memory bank that remembers the place of several discs.

So you can blame the different manufacturers of Blu-ray players and/or the programmers of the discs and/or whoever made that design decision. Blaming BD-J itself is silly.
