What is "IRE" setting on a TV?

Hey,
On my TV I have a setting - IRE - going from 0 to 100, anyone know what this is and what I should set it at for TV, DVD and BD?
It was always set at 100 and I just left it alone previously

Yes, leave well alone unless you know what you are doing.

AFAIK, this is only really for calibrators with the right gear, as it's not something you can do by eye, and if you try you'll likely just make the picture worse.

Another little thing is I have the Sharpness level on the picture set at 20/100, is that OK or should Sharpness be 0?

Sharpness should always set to 0.

Neutral sharpness isn’t necessarily 0 on all manufacturers.

Grim_tales - Your sig says your TV is already pro calibrated, or is this a different one?

(Hopefully this is roughly correct!) IRE (Institute of Radio Engineers) is used for greyscale calibration (at the correct color temperature of 6,500K) 0 IRE to 100 IRE, depending on the display and manufacturer you can have different methods 2 points, 10 points, 20 points and so on. You set a target luminance of 100 nits (some folks set it a bit higher at 130) and depending on the number of points you can adjust the primary and sometimes secondary values to achieve the correct greyscale. So IRE 0 is black and IRE 100 is white. A 2 point balance lets you adjust the value at 20 (Low) and 80 (High) (if I recall), 20 points goes from 5-100 in fives (some new OLEDs have values under 5 for near black issues).

Changing the 100 won't actually do anything (they just represent the stimulus), it will just bring up the option to adjust other IREs, but unless you're using measuring devices or you just want to play around (don't play around if your display is calibrated and you haven't got your values written down!), you're better off leaving them alone like other posters have said.

It's the same TV Sometimes I played around with sharpness to see if it made a difference or couldnt understand why settings like 1080p Pixel Direct were greyed out (for BD I thought that should be on?)
