Watched yesterday.
The Criminal Life of Archibaldo de la Cruz (Ensayo de un Crimen) 1955 - One of Luis Bunuel's Mexican movies that looks forward to his later Spanish and French productions with it's pitch-black humor and fetishism. Better than I expected. Blu-ray looks very nice. |

Little Shop of Horrors - Can't believe I've never seen this ... still. ![]() Watched Young Sherlock Holmes ![]() Also missed this growing up. Finally popped it in, and ... well, it's just okay. I enjoyed the actors. Alan Cox is good as Watson, and Rowe certainly does a fine job depicting Holmes. Sophie Ward (sadly) plays nothing more than the pretty girl/romantic interest. The story begs for better turns, and seems to just fizzle out about half-way. The ending was a bit surprising, but only because (for an 80s film) it takes a sad turn - though I suppose that's how you have to end it. I have to say that watching this, I couldn't stop thinking that J.K. Rowling saw this, or that Chris Columbus carried over a lot of the visual design to his directorial role in Harry Potter. Columbus was the writer of this film. |
