idk why the high end smaller TVs are so close in price compared to their 55 inch versions. You think they would be alot cheaper than they actually are

Does anyone have an opinion about the upscaling and tuners on the current Sony UHD LEDs? I like watching a few over-the-air TV channels that are only available in standard definition.

I was thinking of getting the 43-inch version of the Sony X85K, which costs about $600 on sale, as my main TV for a small 1-bedroom apartment. Even if I had room for one, I don't want a larger TV because of the weight. I want to be able to move the TV on my own easily. My present main TV has a 32-inch screen, so even a 43-inch screen is a substantial upgrade.

Why an LED TV instead of an OLED TV? Even a small OLED TV costs more than I'm willing to spend at this time. Also, I watch far more hours of TV than UHD movies. Plus, I'll be viewing in a well-lit room, not in the dark.

I watch SD OTA TV on my X900H sometimes and I wouldn't say it is very good. Then again, I'm not sure it would look better if I had a different brand of TV since Sony's upscaling is said to be very good.

With regards to the tuner, I have an old Sony LCD that is also connected for over-the-air and the reception on that one is noticeably better than the one on my X900H. There are times when one channel won't work on the newer TV but shows up without any problems on the older one. Sometimes the signal will periodically drop out too. This seems to happen more on channels that are HD rather than SD.

I'm not trying to dissuade you from a Sony TV but those are my experiences. I barely watch any OTA TV so it's not a dealbreaker for me and if I was in the market for a new TV right now I'd get a Sony one without hesitation. I don't have any experience with recent TVs from other brands. I'm not even sure if there have been any reviews done on the capability of the tuner for newer TVs.

We still have MPEG-2, heavily compressed broadcasts for SD in the UK. Nothing is going to make them look good. What you want is a TV that doesn't make them worse by some mangled upscaling (Sony is fine, as are most of the "proper" brands).
