I went to check Brimstone and I forgot that the digital HD had already been gifted to me. It is $7.99 on BD. I will watch it first via VUDU and if I like it, will get the BD.

I'm not sure what the mods consider bad enough to ban. I've had posts deleted that I didn't think were anything out of the ordinary and you're never told why.

Wow, lots to catch up on, but more of the same since I took a hiatus. I see everyone is still very passionate on their platform of choice. I’ve nothing to really to add. I do wish I had picked up a few foreign steelbooks when I had the money, but maybe down the pike. It has been a minute since I actually bought something. I’m mostly streaming and playing Red Dead Redemption 2 with my son at the moment.

Positives:
transfer really shows off the highlands and the various camera pans and swoops.
Cinematography is impressive and quite creative at times.
Queen soundtrack
Clancy Brown

Negatives
Unconvincing sword fights
Very dated FX
Disjointed script
Christopher Lambert has about as much charisma as a sink plunger.

A rare dud blind buy for me, all these years wondering what all the fuss was about and now, I think I was right to avoid it.

Going to sell it

Film 2/5

How dare you attack a national treasure, good sir. Seriously, I get it, but it’s one of my favorite movies and television series. Not to mention one of the best cult classics from the 80’s.

I’ve since let my subscription lapse since I moved. I’ve been streaming more than buying at this point. Mostly due to financial issues from my custody battle for my son and not having a pot to piss in.

This is something that drives me absolutely bonkers when I was more frequent in forums and groups. My feeling is, you need to leave the original post up with the infraction or forum violation. Otherwise, you leave it up for speculation on what happened. But that’s just my 2 pence worth.

Placed another UK to USA order. Have watched about half of them. Wasn't happy about that 33 pounds and shipping for Dawn of the Dead, but I didn't know when I'd order from Amazon UK again and I've been curious about the movie for too long.

Still haven't purchased a new cabinet. Can't find one I like. Collection is a mess, soon to get worse.

Edit: Oh, France already has a 4K of The Great Silence. Cancelled that one.

So how have the prices you guys are willing to pay changed over the last decade?

A decade ago I remember buying some blu rays at 10 dollars a piece and thinking that was a great deal. some 3d blu rays I was paying like 20 to 25 for some movies. I bought a few DVDs at a couple of dollars a piece.

These days I don’t buy many blu rays if the 4k is out and my price range for a bd when a 4k does exist can be like 2 dollars. As for 4k blu rays my price range is probably around 10 dollars if it’s a movie I’m pretty sure I would like.

I’m not really sure what lowered my expected price so much. Part of it was blu rays became inferior goods so it didn’t make sense to pay a premium for them. I think the bigger part was streaming made the rush to get most movies none existent.

The other thing that’s semi connected with my devaluing of movies is the used market is really low these days. The going prices for movies these days is just lower then it was a decade ago.

Hi there, I Sent a message to Vilya last week but I’m guessing he is too weak or maybe simply not up to correspondence so I just left it there until he gets in touch with us.
He did initially send us the sad news via PM and we are all shocked and saddened. His is in my prayers and hopefully they can somehow extend the time he has left.

Yeah, Highlander was a let down!

I get why it has a cult following but it wasn’t for me.
That soundtrack though! Easily the best thing about it.

Discs are still essential to me so I will pay the going rate. 4K disc is superior to a streaming version and the surround sound blows it out of the water. Disc is HT movie night, Netflix, Disney etc.. is just catching a movie on the sofa. Different experiences.

I still buy everything I want on disc. Price isn't the main issue for me.

A new Blu is usually between 15-20€. A new 4K between 20-26€ which seems fair to me.

$20-22 is pretty much my upper limit for new movies. Beyond that, I'll wait a few weeks or a month for it to show up used somewhere.

Good to see you are still kicking!

On the streaming front Apple has released a tweaked ATV4K for less money, on the UHD Blu-ray side there has been 3 or 4 players released all aimed at the high end side.

Added a Apple TV4K (2nd gen), Nvidia Shield Pro, Roku Ultra and FireTV Cube to my streaming hardware. Added a Zappiti NAS and Neo player to my disc side of things, have all my Blu-ray titles on the NAS.

Most of us do not know when our ticket will be punched so I don’t know what I would do if I were in Vilya’s shoes. Law of averages says I do not have many ticks remaining because of my age so we are trying to make the best of what we remaining, hope Vilya does too.

Agreed, have both on Blu-ray, had to import Open Range. Have you viewed Sweetwater? Harris is a hoot in that one.
