Do we really have to go over RACS discourse every single time the man says something dumb?

Me buying something from RS and selling it? "Scalper".
My main gripe has and always will be the intentional purchasing of stock on hard to find items (or out of print items) to sell above MSRP or anti-consumer actions like the intentional cancellation of orders to sell at a higher price elsewhere (when you are marketing yourself as a legitimate storefront).

When a product is readily available, I have no issue with running your own storefront and profiting off those who are unaware of other storefronts or can no longer take advantage of previous sales that may create temporary arbitrage in the market.

It's a fine distinction but then again, the world is run on such fine lines.

Yes. It is a current event. A lot of people tried to order a recently but not yet OOP set that was in-stock from him last week. Others considered it, myself included. Also it is funny and this is enjoyable.

It's like when the president does something dumb and illegal and proceeds to deflect his crimes onto the public. Similar to Robert besmirching blu-ray.com. Through complete Deflection of his own antics. You have to call out public lies and deceit when they occur. So that everyone learns another lesson.

Sometimes we have to be reminded of the "Here, this tastes like shit. TRY IT!!" life lesson. People need to know that he is running a corrupt business of ill repute. We need to remember that the last stinky bastion for recently OOP anime is a garbage pit of un-fun.

Nothing announced, but it's definitely possible. If Maiden Japan still owns the rights, we'd have to wait for them to lose it because they seem done releasing things.

I agree that things get a bit dicey when talking about limited editions and OOP items, but there is plenty of room for gray area. As for items like Beautiful Dreamer, if something has been out for years and available from a number of sources I have a hard time feeling sorry for people who missed out. That doesn't mean I'd be ok with someone buying the last 50 of something at RS so they can corner the market. I have missed out on many thousands of dollars of profit because I deliberately avoid buying the remaining copies. I try to be ethical in everything I do, and I have no problem explaining my actions and reasoning precisely because I do take ethics seriously.

In the grand scheme of things, someone who is willing to pay $50 for an item wants it more than someone who is only willing to pay 20, and due to the nature of licensing anime (and subsequently going OOP) there is a demand for sellers who hold onto an item so that a bigger fan can buy it later.

Is there anyone on this forum who *hasn't* bought an OOP item from someone who was selling it at a higher price for greater profit? And weren't we all at least a little thankful that we were able to do so? At the same time we also all realize that buying stuff when its still in print is the best strategy so we try to go that route and avoid jacked up prices.

It helps me feel better about myself.

No matter how crappy a person I am (and I am), I can always remind myself "at least I'm not Robert."

I'll go out on a limb and say BWBODDY.

I've purchased OOP items in the past for the sole purpose of enjoying them, then succumbing to sell them at the market price later. I can't think of a time I've purposely purchased something for the sole purpose of flipping. I'm guessing most folks on this forum would fall into that category.

EDIT: Just realized I completely misread your post as "Is there anyone here who *hasn't* bought an OOP item from someone and then sold it at a higher price for profit." Carry on.

While it may be difficult, I find my personal line comes down to the motivations of the seller.

Someone who sells something from their collection for market price that they don't have as much attachment to compared to the money gained from selling is fine. However, someone buying multiple copies, say in this particular example 10 copies of Beautiful Dreamer upon news that it is going OOP, that's a completely different story and should be regarded negatively.

PRESENT!

It's my own damn fault when I miss out on things. The simple truth is that: If you didn't order it when it was available then you didn't want it that much to begin with. But I won't overpay or buy from scalpers. I'll hunt things down later and 50-75% of the time things become available again, or there will be a new edition printing. I'm not 16 years old anymore where a 6-month semester feels like an eternity. You can watch shows through other means. Someone else will sell their copy eventually. Or else I can wait.

You win some, you lose some.

It's currently streaming on HIDIVE. Sentai have yet to release a 4K UHD themselves and have seemingly abandoned other formats (DVD, SD-BD) aside from Blu-ray. Personally, I don't expect to see another domestic release anytime soon.

If you are selling something over 3 times MSRP and preying on collectors then you are a scalping plain and simple. Your justification of...I'm just making sure it gets into the hands of people for an inflated price is just sugar coating what you do. A thief is still a thief regardless of if they are stealing a penny or stealing a thousand dollars.

One of my first rules when I started seriously collecting is that I wasn't going to pay over msrp prices for anime. I had multiple reasons for this. First of all I do it enough with old games so budget is a factor. But also like you said there is at least a reasonable chance most things will see another printing. Sometimes when this happens the quality improves as well. I'm never going to be upset about a reprint since more people can enjoy something that way but it's a lot nicer to double dip and/or not care when you pay like $20 for a set that was going for $150+ at the time. The biggest reason though is I also realized pretty quickly due to experiences with other collector markets that I was buying from a place of power in regards to anime. Especially when I started it was extremely low interest so even if supply is low on something so was the demand. No reason to shell out big bucks. At this point I have a decent sized collection with plenty I haven't watched so there is simply no need to.

That seemed pretty fast, just about a year it looks like. Must have had a lower print run.

The season 2 limited edition was really lame anyway.

Same but myself being region free, sometimes I’ll pick up the odd UK release if that’s still available. But when it comes to LEs and the like, I always pre-order immediately and make the necessary budgetary changes or plans to pay for it.

Seems like Love Tyrant has gone OOP, delisted from RS, and Crunchyroll, only 2nd hand sellers on Amazon, even gone from Gruv. This along with Senran Kagura Shinovi Master are two of the Funi titles that never got a 2nd dicounted "Essentials" release.
