Wow so much beautiful artwork in here!! I looked through a bunch of posts and am wondering if anyone has done the Stanley Kubrick Collection (or know where I can just print out the original artwork for the movies since many of them have their own releases)... Thanks!

Here's a WIP I just started. The easy part's done (the front). Now I've just got to put the back together.

The economic downturn became personal yesterday with the announcement that my position at work was being eliminated with my company going through a major downsizing.

I therefore really need to devote my time to finding a new job.

I've enjoyed getting to know some really great people over the past year, some very talented individuals, but I will no longer be producing custom covers.

Best wishes to you all.
Sorry to hear this, Darren. Your work here has been greatly appreciated (I hope all my messages and PMs have expressed that in detail). I'm sure your skills will land you a job in no time. We're all pulling for you.

Just finished this cover. I tried a few different things on the back, but this is the one I liked the most. I wanted to list the bonus features, but it just looked too cluttered. I always feel that the most important parts on the back are the synopsis and the picture(s).

I have had a number of people offer to take up the task of completing the Bond series, with one person offering to pay for the PSD file, so I'm weighing what I should do.

In a quiet moment to help my own sanity as I scour job boards I did this easy custom for "Live and Let Die":

If you're looking for suggestions then read on. If not, then don't. This is just my opinion:
[Show spoiler]Why is the Brave cover so dark? Is that supposed to be gold in the Title Treatment and the borders? Also, the blue orbs look really strange, as if the one on the right is the horses heart or something.

Hi guys, I'm new here and first of all I just wanted to say there's some great work here, really cool stuff. I have a question that I'm hoping someone can help out with, but I haven't been able to find answers just yet. Right now I'm not interested in creating custom cover art. What I am wanting to do is create custom boxes. I tried searching this thread and the site but by nature of the search term "custom box" it mostly brings up custom cover art threads. I'd like to do boxes for 3 Blu-Rays. Right now I am interested in creating a box for the Blade series, though I'd love to do more in the future depending on how it turns out. Has anyone ever attempted to create a custom box to hold existing Blu-Rays? For reference I'd like to do a box like The Bourne Trilogy or the UK Spider-man trilogy (though not with the raised textures obviously). Sorry if this has been covered but if anyone could point me in the right direction or offer any insight I'd really appreciate it.

BEAUTIFUL! I do tend to think that busywork helps immensely when you are in the middle of a job search. Two years ago, I was in that type of a situation and I didn't do much. I stayed in my apartment and got more and more depressed, which was awful because I just married the month before. Thankfully, I've found steady employment, but it was a tough period of time.

This is something that I've been interested in pursuing for a while. I have a couple of ideas on the matter. I haven't attempted this yet, but I'm sure I will when I have time.

Custom boxes are not easy to come by and certainly not easy to make if you don't have the right tools. You would need a scoring knife/blade/utensil and a thin cardboard material (thicker than a typical poster board). Measurements would need to be exact.

After that, you would need to print out the layout of your design in a template that is formed to your box. This is very difficult since the look of the whole thing depends entirely on your quality of paper, and I have been unable to find a paper large enough with the right gloss and texture. Staples and the other office supply stores do not sell textured or semi gloss paper larger than 8.5" x 11". So there's that.

The next hurdle is finding a laser printer large enough (office copiers/printer combos are usually the size you need for a quality job like this) to print a 11" x 17" or larger depending on the size of your box.

Next you would need to use an exacto knife or box cutter to cut out the design and prepare it for gluing to the box. Spray adhesive is a must on this because you must glue all surfaces to the box template.

Then fold your box along the scored edges...

It's really not that easy. You could try and print the design directly on the board you're using, but not a lot of laser printers will print on something that thick without messing up. You could throw raised texturing completely out the window because they use a machine press for that.

Darren is using cover-making as therapy! I empathize :-)
