Saw an 85" Samsung 4k tv at my local bby today. I almost passed out in shock from the clarity. It's like you're looking through a window at things living in the tv. The sales rep told me its one of 6 of that type of tv in the country and Samsung is only making them as they're ordered. Priced at $40,000

Compared to the best that 1080p blu-ray has to offer, I couldn't really notice a big difference. Was it crystal clear...yes, but I've seen 1080p display that look almost as clear. It's just not worth the upgrade imo.

Yea that is what they said about HD 5 years ago but when you have people not seeing much of a difference between 1080p HD and 4K that's a whole other matter. Why spend a ton of money on something when you cant tell the difference in PQ from what they already have? Makes no sense.

4k just seems like 1080p upscaling to me...if u have bluray player that can upscale u don't need 4k especially when we dont have the spec on 4k data or disc structure..now for the display even computer monitors can do more than 1080p now a days its not a big deal other than bigger screen

I'm on the fence about 4K, but this has me about to jump back to where I was:

I'm trying to hold onto a few freedoms.

After seeing this TV in BBY I would definitely get it for the 65"and up sizes. I'm confused why they have it in 50". I can easily see buying the 84" TV even at $25K if I had that kind of money (which I don't). At 84" anything less than 4K would be subpar IMO. Can't wait until this tech becomes around $5K in 5 years or so....until then - I'm loving my 60" 1080P HD. Plenty of content to enjoy.

USA 4k hardware requirments question

Hello everyone,

I currently have my home theater system set up to send audio/video from blu-ray player through a/v receiver to the tv.

Question 1
If I were to purchase 4K tv (Sony XBR-55X900A) and have the same setup, would I also need to get 4K blu ray player and 4K a/v receiver to see true 4K picture on the tv? (I know that I also need a 4k blu ray and content) My assumption is yes.

Question 2
Will current 4k "upscaling" blu ray players (Sony BDPS790) and a/v receivers (Sony STR-DH540) provide true 4k picture, or we all need to wait for a 4K blu ray players and 4k a/v receiver without word "upscaling" for the true 4k picture?

Thanks

Answer 1: You would need a player that is designed to deliver native 4k content. Also you would need a receiver that could pass-through 4k content.

Answer 2: "Upscaling" is never true 4k. It will look good, but real 4k content will look better.

Thanks for the response. In regards to your answer to my second question, I assume it is better to wait until "true" 4k devices, other than the TVs, will be available to consumers to purchase and not spend money on the hardware that provides "upscale" functionality?
