Personally, when I'm designing a cover the last thing on my mind is "what I think others want the cover to contain." I'm designing it to my liking/preferences. And if fellow members like them, of course I'm always happy to share them. I recall a time I offered a cover and someone commented he liked it but wanted me to send him the PDF file so he could manipulate my design to his liking. LOL. I guess as a graphic designer I feel the integrity of someone's design should be maintained and not altered in any capacity. Again, this is just my position. No need to argue guys, it's all good.
I appreciate the comments and defense of the work, but I've no problem with AmishParadise tweaking the design as an alternative to suit what he likes. He also paid for that cover in some fashion I'm assuming, as I don't share covers unless it's with another cover designer I'm familiar with (like steev210). What site are you a member of Amish? Like steev210, I do like my covers to look as legit as possible, but I kind of like the tweaked version. That bar code was pissing me off because I wanted to shift the artwork but couldn't do it without the code blocking too much of the art, and I was far too lazy to redo the nine images that make up the back! ![]() Again, thanks for the compliments and comments. ![]() |

And again (...and this is for others reading this more so, not you), my suggestion was to consider offering an "alternate" version as well if you felt so inclined, an "alternate" version. I wasn't suggesting that you replace the version you had done. Removing the UPC and UV banner allowed for increasing several of the remaining elements in size providing for better balance overall while at the same time making the more artistic portions more prominent in the process, the textual based elements being easier to read as well at that point. Made for an excellent "alternate" version, so I thought I'd suggest it. Last edited by AmishParadise; 06-03-2016 at 08:38 PM. |

As for this whole conversation on alerting covers and making alterations to other designer's covers... My designs have always been polarizing. I am one that hates traditional cover elements such as bar codes and legal statements. I make my designs truly unique. As a result, other members sometimes would like me to alter my design or make a second version in a more of a studio template. For me, I never want to compromise my style to suit everyone else. I am firstly designing for myself. and because of this, I don't expect everyone to like my designs or use them. That's what's great about those sites, it provides options for every taste. As for others taking a completed design and altering it. A few times in the past I have run across an older DVD cover for a movie I purchased on blu-ray. Upon asking the designer of that cover if they planned on converting it, I was told no. So, I kindly asked them if I could take their cover and convert it myself, as long as I committed to stay true to their original design. I have not had anyone say no to me yet. I always feel it is better to ask than just do. No, I would never send someone my PSD files to alter my covers fully, as those layer elements are unique to me and my design. However, if someone asked me if they could alter one of my covers, I suppose it would depend on what they wanted to change and why. One time another designer wanted to alter my cover to change the language on it to Dutch, and I was perfectly fine with that. But if they wanted to remove a picture so they could add a bar code and technical elements, I would say no. I take an enormous amount of pride in my work, and every element in each cover is carefully thought out and tirelessly perfected (almost 100 unique designs made to date). Many of my covers take over 40 hours to complete, with my recent Dumbo one taking closer to 80 hours. Because of this, I am very proud of each of them... but also very protective of them, and how they are used. What I say is that it never hurts to ask, but just understand if someone says no. EDIT: Oh, and xShoty and Kernie are two of the best designers right now on HiRes, I have a bunch of Kernie's comic collection covers on my shelf! |

I hate that review discs usually come without covers, so I make my own. I just reviewed the Marty Feldman comedy Every Home Should Have One, and decided to take a radical approach by ditching the UK poster with its pop-art design, and ran up one using the American art, along with the on-the-nose US title of Think Dirty.
As usual, there is some choice profanity in the small-print, in this instance concerning idiots who try to play Blus on regular DVD machines. thinkdrirtypic.jpg Last edited by WilsonBros; 06-12-2016 at 04:50 PM. |

Because people have to resort to being creative since Fox has completely bailed on physical media in regards to their television shows. The Simpsons is one of the most successful series of all time. I am sure someone has created these covers.

Yeah, okay, but why make covers for Blu-rays that DOES'NT exist? Having covers for them won't magically make them appear!
