When I first started this hobby (almost ten years ago), I think I may have paid for credits at one point, but I'm not sure. But since I joined CustoManiacs (about three years ago), I haven't paid once for them. I've earned them through submissions.

Yes but not everyone is a great cover artist like you! I am am member at all the sites and at some have donated scans and artwork (so I dont pay at those sites) as long as I contribute in some way.

It's pretty much the same deal for me. I've seen covers by artists who have a LOT more skill and patience than me, and most of my submissions are resource-based.

You are a good cover artist. In fact I believe I use your spanning spine set for my Quantum leap DVD series! But there are so many wonderful artists that are no longer in the game.....I sure do miss them.

Thanks; I appreciate the compliment.

Pardon the pun, but that's a huge step back in time for me. I've wanted to revamp that set for a long time, but the original version was such a headache to begin with, due to a lack of proper resources. I wouldn't want to undergo that kind of artistic stress again.

Yeah, I remember a few from the good ol' DVDCA days; some of them have formed their own sites, while others just disappeared. I did chat with DVDCA's old webmaster a few months ago, and he's pretty much away from the hobby now, too.

Technically you don't pay for the covers just the privilege to download the covers and use the necessary bandwidth.
The replacethecase.com is giving me a weird message when I try to register. It keeps telling me The e-mail address you entered is not allowed to be used." Really odd message. Tried @yahoo emails and @gmail. No dice on 4 different emails.

These custom covers are really great. What software can be used to make BD covers?

People here use everything from Photoshop to Paint. The more advanced are Photoshop and Corel Paint Shop Pro.

I see. I'm looking for a cheap, easy to use program where I can make covers for burned BDs. I'm issuing some of my projects on Blu-ray and want to be able to make simple covers for them. Can anyone recommend a program for what I want to do?

Thanks!

I'd like a easy to use program as well for the very same reason. I am not sure if there's one out there though.

One of these two statements I can declare as true. GIMP is free. Is ease of use is heavily debatable, it has many features though that line up with those features of Photoshop which I perceive custom cover artists using.

OK, everyone; for those who are interested, I've updated my Photoshop templates for Blu-Ray covers, based on practical measurements I did with a metal ruler this morning. I then cut some paper inserts to check the sizes, and they fit perfectly. So, here's the numbers, for anyone who wants them. You can find the templates at this link.

Viva Elite 1-3 Disc Case
Physical Measurements: 10 & 9/16" x 5 & 7/8"
Insert Dimensions: 3170 x 1760 pixels (spine is 130 px)

Vortex 3-4 Disc Case
Physical Measurements: 10 & 3/4" x 5 & 7/8"
Insert Dimensions: 3230 x 1760 pixels (spine is 190 px)

Vortex 5-6 Disc Case
Physical Measurements: 10 & 7/8" x 5 & 7/8"
Insert Dimensions: 3260 x 1760 pixels (spine is 220 px)

Ugh, got Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist and there is a sticker on the case for the already expired Digital Copy! The stick left a ton of crap on the cast clear plastic cover when I tried to remove it. Lame digital copies.

Not a bad start, but I'd suggest you keep the motion blurs and logos consistent on all six of them. Also, the whole "George Lucas Presents" tag really isn't needed, since almost everyone over the age of 12 in a prospering society knows who he is.

Those are sweet! All but the Empire Strikes Back one. I wish you would have used the original poster art from that film like you did ANH and ROTJ.

Not a big fan of the titles used for the PT posters.
