Well, I don't know if I should delete it now, if I figure out how, since it's been nominated (by a resident artist no less) for cover of the month.
On here, Sorry if you were talking about somewhere else, i may not have properly understood

As long as the artist has made them the right size (almost 100% guaranteed)

Thanks for everyones understanding on my soapbox rant!! Appreciate that. But I don't want everyone to think Im selfish/snobbish either, meaning I love to work with people to make hybrid covers like I did with Thor on the trek covers. That way all artists sign off and agree on the design before its posted.

The mods will take care of it on eFX. I hope you understand the reasoning behind it all over there. On the cover sites, there is a method and a process to the covers and what is accepted and not accepted. The cover sites work hard at offering people the best and highest quality covers, since many people are 'paying' to be members there. Authenticity and quality are key. For a cover thats trying to be unique, it really needs to go through WIP (work in progress) so the mods and RA's (resident artists) can give feedback and also so you can explain a unique cover and the reasoning for the design. Many of the reasons yours was pulled was because, 1. The title was darker that normal, the blu-ray logo was not top quality, and there was only a big stamp with your name on the back. To make it authentic, you could have put the legals and credits on the back, working your name into that, even making it a dark grey, but still being able to see. The WIP section always helps you before you post a full image to prevent this from happening. Hope this helps and explains the cover site processes better and doesn't leave a bitter taste in your mouth for eFX. Its a good site with a group of artists that are very very helpful. So don't be offended, we've all had covers rejected at some point, it just makes the final cover all that much better in the end.

I just wish the great cover artists on all the sites would concentrate more on Blu Ray now instead of Standard DVD. There are so many wonderful covers out there that could be converted to Blu. But go look at all the sites, its still like 1 new Blu custom for every 10 new SDVD. I pay for membership at like 6 sites.....and since I no longer buy DVD's (in fact getting rid of them as I replace with Blu) Im kinda just waiting for a Blu artists explosion........

Yeah. I understand that now, I guess I should've looked into that more before I posted. I posted my Twilight cover the same way though and it wasn't a problem. If it was explained to me the way you just did I wouldn't have had a problem at all, but when I get a message along the lines of "i can't approve your cover" and "it's not very creative", that's where it kinda irked me. Heck, for all intents and purposes of the cover, I actually had to much on the cover, but I figured I could at least put the title on the spine.

Wait Wait Wait. Did you alter a DVD cover to a HD cover? Thats a big difference than taking someones HD cover and altering it.

I like the conversions you have done.

Hey, saw a picture today of possible Fast & Furious (new one) packaging and it's different to the new trilogy packaging we just got rolled out. If this is the actual packaging can someone do a custom on it. And I know we haven't yet got X-Men Origins: Wolverine packaging but if it is different to the rest as well can someone make a custom for it (x shape on front, bottom left little X1, X2, X3 thing on).

I'm not sure if a cover designer would see a difference between taking one of their Blu-ray covers and altering it, or taking their HDDVD / DVD cover and altering it to Blu-ray; the may dislike both (which may be dv8's comment). I personally do conversions for myself because I find it much easier and quicker than bothering the creator to do it when they have other things to do.

From now on I will not actively post my conversions; I will list what ones I've done, and if someone wants one of them, you can email me and beg (plead, bribe, etc.) me for it!

My Email: bpmford.covers@gmail.com

My cover conversions:

Aeon Flux
Bourne Series
Bullitt
The Day After Tomorrow
Die Hard Collection
Enemy at the Gates
Equilibrium
Falling Down
Inside Man Coming Soon
The Machinist
The Matrix Trilogy
Office Space
Pirates of the Caribbean Trilogy
Resident Evil Trilogy
A Scanner Darkly
Sunshine
The Thing
U-571 Coming Soon
V for Vendetta
X-Men Trilogy

I can't see any cover artist getting mad if they made a cover for HD DVD and then have not converted it to Blu Ray. Case in point..there is a wonderful "The Thing" cover out there that I would love to have on my shelf but its HD DVD and we have asked and asked to have it converted from the artist but he is no longer around or does not answer. I say give the artist full credit for the artwork but if they dont respond then convert away.

And Eny - I feel ya bro, nobody has yet to do an Apes Cover for the original film on blu ray.

Like I said, what people do with covers after they download them, that's cool, change it to blu-ray. If I had a DVD cover I made and someone converted it to blu for they're own collection. Im cool with that. Reposting it for download was my only issue.

Are you talking about efx? As I am one of the admin there, I can assure you we have always been, and will be, friendly and helpful to any artist or member. We take pride in the fact that our covers/labels are of the highest quality. Using the "Work in Progress" forum is a great way to get advice from some of the best designers on the web. There is nothing CLOSED about our site. Anyone can register. To download, a member must pay a small fee or they can post in the "Proving Grounds" forum, either their scans or customs. If approved, they gain FREE access. We are also one of the few cover sites that accept artwork of ALL languages.

As for the Spinal Tap cover, I will always stand behind the decisions my mods make. The decision on this particular cover was made by several staff members. It was placed in our "for review" section. This area still allows members to download, but are there because they could not meet site requirements.

Any members here are invited to take look at efx. If you have any problems you can pm me here.

I understand, as long as you dont mind people sharing amongest themselves because you know what....its going to happen. One thing I can't stand is an artist thats so anal he does not want his stuff anywhere. If thats the case make it for youself and never tell anyone about it. I have been a member of several sites and I can understand not posting the stuff on sites for credits or taking credit for someone else's work but I dont see a problem with someone posting conversions on flicker or whatever as long as the original artist is given credit for the artwork.

Artists know that people will share amongst themselves. I've done it. but I hate to break it to you but many cover artists are anal about their stuff. People work hard/put long hours in to make cool covers for people to enjoy, not for them to offer as downloads or convert and post on their own.
Quote:

If everyone took that advice, you wouldn't have any covers to download. Make your own from scratch like everyone else who works hard on designing a cover if you want to post them on flicker or convert them and post them.

Another reasoning behind this is many people make covers for movies just now out in the theaters and the specs/special features etc are not always correct, and being in control of where they are uploaded allows an artist to update his/her cover when it gets detailed. Having it all over the place, you'll always have wrong covers somewhere you can update. What if you downloaded an awesome cover from Flick'r today for Transformers 2, and in a few months, it comes out and all the specs and details are wrong, but theres no one to update it with a new one, and you have no clue where the original came from. As an OCD cover person with my covers on my shelves, I'd be pissed it wasn't right. Food for thought.

OK, Im done with this subject. Im going to leave it alone and get back to making and posting covers I think people enjoy, which this thread is really about. I think for the most part people are respecting it, and those that bust their butts to make covers agree. And those that do it anyway, I see get banned all the time. No one wants that. End of story!
