My almost 7 and 5 year old daughters love the PS3 and X-Box 360 games... Little Big Planet, Sonic Racing on X-Box 360, arcade games like Castle Crashers.
Well, they have seen the Wii at friends or family and have really had no interest... they would like the new Mario 4-player game and just saw a newer game on Saturday. The newer game is Music or something like that with 30 songs and you have to copy the character dance moves... there were 20 kids and 10 adults playing it for an hour. So, I am sure my wife and I would like to play that with the kids and all 4 of us could play Mario. I personally hate the Wii... I do not like that is not HD... HD has ruined me... but I don't not like being forced for use a Wii-mote instead of just sitting and playing with a controller. I will claim stupidity, but are most games only Wii movement? Meaning do you always have to wave your hands around? NOW... My real question? Stores do not help me... How will the Wii look on my Sony 240hz 180p TV? Semi-decent or is it crap? Should I wait until June to see if Nintendo announces an HD version? So confused... Like I said it might be family fun... but summer is almost here... I wonder if it would be used for a while... and dust collector after that? |

I love my Wii. Its my favorite gaming system out of the ones that are out now. As for the HD, it goes 480P and it looks ok. If u hook it up with a component cable and not the rca jacks then it does look better. I would say get one now. They already lowered the price and yes that new 4 player Mario game is great! Also some games u turn the controller sideways like the Mario game and some games it is about motion. Just depends on the game. Great fun nonetheless. One of the best things about the Wii is the virtual console where u can go online and download old games between prices of 5-10 dollars. Well worth it. Got Em!!

I have a Wii in my system and I think it looks good enough on my 50" 1080p plasma. I bought a set of component video cables for use with it. It's definitely not HD, but for what it is it looks pretty good. Some games like the new Super Mario Brothers make you turn the Wii-mote sideways and use it pretty much just like an old classic controller. There are still some motion elements to most games (like having to shake the controller occasionally), but for the most part this game works like a classic game.

The Wii sucks compared to the 360 or PS3 IMO. Having said that my daughter has trouble playing some of the ps3 and 360 titles besides like viva pinata and the like. I think the Wii is great for kids. Wii sports is fun and really beyond that you dont need many other titles mario kart would be a buy as well had tons of fun with my N64 rocking mario kart 4 player. My daughter also likes Wii fit got that for my fiance and they both like it allot and you will actually sweat if you do it.
As for controls all the games I have use the Wii mote for on screen interaction of some sort. Except some of the classic games you can buy like LoZ:A Link to the past and Super Mario Bros. That is another plus for the Wii is the classics you can buy and download. As for visuals it depends on how well you TV can scale try a reg. dvd (in a dvd player) and see how it looks that will give you an idea. |

just wait for the PlayStation Move to be released and supported by games
it will be better than wii besides just being able to sense motion, it can determine its position in 3D space, meaning in a swordfight, your characters sword attack will replicate how you move the remote in real life, instead of the wii, where you just shake it back and forth explain to your kids that if they wait, they will get something better ![]() plus if you already have a PS3, this will cost maybe $70, instead of buying a Wii! |

I got the wii and at first thought it wasnt good idea....But my parents play it and they dont even play games like that which is cool...and my son / girl plays it...and when friends come over...we play the wii...never play ps3 or xbox when i have ppl over...unless we watch a blu....The wii is somethin for when you have ppl over..or for family fun...
I prolly wouldnt play by myself....but the best games to me is the ones that involve you moving around...Like wii sports resort is played regularly around here...So u get ya money worth. I would like to check that redsteel 2 out tho...4 me that is |

At this point the WII has become my favorite of all 3 systems based on fun factor alone. Personally i have no problem with the WII graphics and have played it most the time on 50" or larger screens. I am dying to get one myself and plan to soon. If however graphics is the largest concern for your gaming experience i say it is NOT for you, WII does not look bad (to me its impressive after all the smack i read on here before actually playing one lol) but it does not hold up to the 360/ps3 in that department.
Also be for warned, if you don't have fun doing things that make you look like a jack *** for instance drunken karaoke in a bar, also pass on the WII as that is one of the really winning components to the system. Watching your grown adult friends throw it down on the hulu hoop WII fit is a laugh riot i never got from gears of war or resistance if you know what i mean. |

If the kids really want one you may as well buy one. I own a Wii soon after launch and don't regret the buy. It's a fairly decent game console. The main reason I bought it was to play the Wii exclusives (mainly Nintendo created games). I consider myself more of a "core gamer" so 95% or so of all Wii games I'd never even consider buying. The console is worth buying for me just to play the latest Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Mario Kart, etc. games alone.
Hooked up for 480P on my Sharp Aquos 1080P "42 HDTV the Wii's graphics are halfway decent. If you are buying it mainly for your kids I wouldn't bother waiting for an updated HD Wii console. Doubt the kids will care about 480P vs. 1080P |

The thing about Wii is that developers keep spamming all of these games on Wii but only a handful of them are any good. Kids just want Wii for something like Mario and a few others like games based off of movies(which most of the time suck). Adults want Wii for like Wii Fit or maybe one of the few Mature rated games like No More Heroes, MadWorld, and so on(but not nearly as much as Wii Fit). Then for teenagers there's RPGs like Phantom Brave, Fragile, Muramasa, Tales of Symphonia 2, and Sakura Wars(prefer the PS2 version myself), or Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom.
Plus with the Playstation Move coming out this Fall I believe and Little Big Planet supposively will support it(not sure if it's going to be the the one that's available now or maybe something that will be in that rumored 2nd game). Last edited by MOONPHASE; 04-20-2010 at 03:22 PM. |

One thing I do not see mentioned is that the Wii is fully backwards compatible with the Gamecube games. It will require a Gamecube controller, but there are some quality Gamecube games.
The Wii graphics will be ok to you. They will not be outstanding but should not disappoint either. |

I'm a hardcore PS3 gamer but also have a Wii. Yes you will notice the reduced resolution... that said, Nintendo has Mario, Zelda, Metroid... great franchises.
monoprice.com has a component video cable for Wii Games I recommend: Definitely get Super Mario Galaxy 1 or 2, if you pre-order 2 now you get 20 back from Amazon. Mario Kart New Super Mario Bros (4 player) Yes I'm sure the Sony Move will be a good controller, but you don't get the Nintendo franchises. If they do come out with Wii HD the kids can have the old Wii for a game room or just sell it to make up some of the difference. |

The Wii on a 1080p television will look fine. I have one, and use component cables. It won't look like XBOX 360 or PS3 by any means, but the games are more than fun enough. The graphics are "cute" most of the time, meaning the incredible detail that you find on the harder-core systems aren't really necessary. Nintendo doesn't even "go there" when it comes to trying to make games with monster graphics, and they don't need to. Their games stand up on their own without the best graphics.

And this sums up my sentiments from a movie perspective as well, I'd rather watch a good movie in crappy definition rather than a crap movie in high definition. With the Wii, sometimes I'd rather play a fun game on the Wii, than play something on the PS3 because some of the games are funner on the Wii than the PS3, on the other hand, I play both systems quite frequently. To the OP, if the kids want a Wii, and you're willing to get it for them, who cares what it looks like, so long as the munchkins are having fun right? Logan |

As long as you hook up the Wii with component cables, it will look solid. No, it's not HD, but as others have mentioned, Nintendo really shines when it comes to gameplay and once you're immersed in a game, you'll forget about the resolution limitations. Depending on your taste, there are a number of fun games for the Wii:
Muramosa Mario Kart Wii New Super Mario Bros. Wii Super Mario Galaxy Pinball Hall of Fame: Williams Collection (available on other consoles, but the controls are superior on the Wii) Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort There's no reason to hate the Wii. In fact, it was designed (and named) specifically for the purposes you're looking at: fun, intuitive, multiplayer experiences - ideal for a family that likes to play games together. |

If they like it, get it. I love it and as people have said you can play most games like normal. In fact, they even have a classic style controller or you can get something comfortable to stick the controller in since it is not comfortable at all to hold that way for very long.

![]() Seriously. Is that was he asked about? Have you ever played it? Do you know anything about beyond that crap in the internet? Since the answer to all of these is no why don't you keep your fanboy opinion to yourself. There's nothing wrong with making a suggestion but stating your opinion as fact is crap. Does the Move look promising, yes. Will it be for everyone, no. Also, it still isn't perfect and we have yet to see what the Wii HD will look like. If you think it will just be a current Wii with HD, I doubt it. It's probably going to be the Wii 2. Let's not forget that comparing a next gen console to a current gen console is moronic. |
