We're used to the cold. We are a tough lot in the North East of England.

I believe it.

Not sure I could sit or stand still to watch anyone play football in that environment...unless it were the likes of Messi.

If we are buff enough, many of us take our tops off in winter at away games just to prove how tough we are.

Hey, on the previous page here, as to the venue, you were right (check out the horizontal lighting). http://www.broadbandtvnews.com/2013/...rs-4k-options/

I can't visit the Prem thread for reading until I've watched yesterday's Arsenal match, tell the tob.

I hope the Arsenal are not tired after their glorious failure in Germany.

So what's the problem all they need to do it put 4k movies on bigger blu-ray discs, if we need new players to play them, we need to players. After all the studios need to make money do they not?

Maybe this

Sony and Panasonic Set to Develop Next-Generation Optical Disc, the two companies are planning to have a disc with recording capacity of at least 300GB but tops out at 1.5 TB by the end of 2015.

Looks more like a studio archival format then a consumer level format.

Has there been new compression codecs in development for 4K yet?

Nobody panic lol, I do remember when VC-1 was being discussed "they" were asked what would be optimal for uncompressed video & "they" answered 2/3GB/s

They will most likely use HEVC it is supposed to be twice as efficient as AVC.

Ok, then 1GB/1.5GB/s transfer rate. That's not too bad.

Why are they even pushing for 4K??? it's not that better than 1080p
I say skip 4K and just go for 8K directly.

I was in Best Buy last night and they had a Sony 4k tv on display which was amazing! The only movies that can be played on that now are Sony titles from Columbia/Tri-Star.

In order to watch it you have to have a special Sony hard drive device hooked up to it that you have to buy separately. The device is a big round device that looks like a frisbie.

But I can say my Pioneer Elite Kuro PRO-151FD when watching bluray is almost as good in PQ. The 4k did NOT blow my Pio out of the water in PQ and in fact could be compared side by side and be pretty close. Great thing about this 4k technology is you can watch the tv from the side off angle and it keeps it's black levels the same and doesn't wash out. Unlike LCD/LED which are just giant laptop screens which I can't stand. I have a Samsung LCD tv upstairs and it's no where near as good as a 4k tv or plasma.

The worker there told me in order to see real 4k on that new Sony you need a high end Monster HDMI cable. I just said to myself: "Oh hear we go again with this B.S.!"

If 4k tv's are the future them I'm happy. Everyone who never had a Pioneer Kuro plasma should be looking forward to 4k tv's.

^^

I saw a 4K display for the first time yesterday. It was a 55" Sony. It looked good for sure but I had a really hard time telling it apart from a 1080p screen.

The difference is relatively small, the number of movies will be limited (few catalogue titles), and it will require new gear. I think 4k will have a hard time.

Wont a 4k TV make most TV programming look like crap since all the shows from the 70s to the 90s wil be stuck in a little window in the center of the screen??
