Is there a way to rebuy a movie to upgrade it to 4k? I have underworld extended edition via VUDU/MA in HD but saw the 4K version is available for 7.99 in Google Play

Not really. If you have a Google Play Family Library set up, you can buy the movie there with another account and it shares to yours as if you own it -- I think it ports back to MA, unsure.

I am less annoyed at no way to upgrade and more that many movies aren't updated to 4K, I've been trying to get in touch with LionsGate and other studios and starting to have some success.

See here in the iTunes distributor contact post for success I'm having with LionsGate

I noticed from Google Play that the Google Play Movies & TV app has been renamed & updated to Google TV last week. Along with being given the updated UI; I get Superman: The Movie to playback in both SD & HD in my own country of Ireland.

There are also some new features added into the app like recommendations for new shows from Disney+ & Amazon PV.

There is no additional 4K movie titles officially available in my library though. I still get Aquaman in 4K within the app. The rest of my 4K library are still available through the website.

Joker Play store bottom:
I wonder why HDR information is not shown on any of the newer titles like SM:NWH and The Matrix Resurrections (on Google Play website/app and the new Google TV app).

The Theatrical version of Superman: The Movie is now in 4K on Google Play in my country. Have any of you checked it to see if it's available in 4K in your libraries?

The Google Play Movies & TV android app has a notice in the movie section to say that it will change to Google TV from May.

Recently I got a pop up notification on the Google TV app that said two movies were upgraded to 4K: The Call of The Wild, and Free Guy. And sure enough, they show as 4K on the app, but when I check on MA, they're still HD.

Has anyone else gotten this? And do the upgrades port to MA or do they just stay in Google?

The movies have officially moved out of the Google Play Android app as of today. The Google TV app is the only way to view your movie rentals and purchases from now on.

I found the documentation of how all the movie services have a standardized format of metadata to enter into each movie provider.

All I can figure is that when entering it on the Google side, they do not fill it all out properly and no one at Google double-checks it. I kind of wonder if this is why Microsoft movies often has missing UHD titles when I think they should have them.

Vudu, Prime Video, and iTunes are all more focused on this as a real big business venue so they may be more diligent.

However, it's the fault of the movie studio\distributor that inputs and uploads the movie in the first place.

And it should be that way.

If you're on the Web, though, they released a re-designed Play Store. Movies bought on the web can still go through the Play Store.

If you're on an Android phone\tablet, you may have to copy\paste the URL into your browser to access via web since the link for the Play Store will usually default to opening the Play Store\GoogleTV app.

Has anyone's GP movies been recently upgraded to 4k?

Think they have stopped upgrading SD/HD...this is no where found on https://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/7184994 now:
"Bought or redeemed from Google Play or YouTube.
Bought or redeemed before October 23, 2018.
From Fox, Lionsgate, NBC Universal, Sony (US only), or Warner Bros.
Available in 4K in your location."

the last movies to upgrade for me were Kid Who Would Be King, Ready or Not, Aquaman, Long Shot, all are 2019 movies

It's up to the film company, not Google.

Anyway I got a lot of films from Lionsgate fixed with my info I posted earlier this year!!!

Now I realized I purchased Red Heat in 4k UHD in September 2020 but now it is HD only. I can't find where someone may have screwed up.

Both of these I can find s don't shoow 4k anymore.

Anyone know if this movie has HDR too?
