I still think you guys get the better deal by far Joe. All those 3DFA films for example. Some of those animated features you mentioned are focused on the very young although I do like the ‘Into The Spiderverse’. I thought that was great.

I would happily swap all those European titles for the 3DFA. In fact, I would snatch your hand off! Titles like ‘The Maze, Wings Of The Hawk, etc..
Also, you guys got F13 part 3 in 3D, not to mention Parasite!

Hi steedeel

Understand completely your situation. And sorry 3D discs are being squeezed out financially for so many.

Fast forward to 2021 and I got a new Denon AVR that supports 3D! I happened to have a few 3D movies that I just bought for the Blu-ray (on sale), one of them being Alice in Wonderland (2010). Unwrapped the 4-pack of 3D glasses, popped the 3D Blu-ray into the Xbox One S, and the whole family loved it. So now I'm on this quest to acquire more 3D Blu-rays lol.
I'm was in a similar situation. The Sony projector I purchased in 2010 did not support 3D, I had no 3D flat panels, and my receiver was from 2004. However, I did pickup a few 3D movies in the last ten years on a whim that included the 2D counterparts.

Fast forward to late 2020 and a natural progression of hardware (new Sony projector, receiver, and blu-ray player) and I'm in the 3D game. I quickly picked up around 30 titles (US and overseas, but region free) that were not at scalper prices.

Better late then never.

I don't think it's ever going to really take off. I have no interest.

Why come to a 3D forum just to say you have no interest.

I say who cares if you have no interest.

It did take off.

Didn't you notice all the 3D theatrical releases and the plethora of 3D discs out there?

Sure, it's flying low these days. But it still managed flight.

I will admit this marketing report is way over my head, however, it appears that worldwide 3D television is still a healthy money maker. And though maybe not publicized, the industry seems to be still interested in its production.
At least that's my own uneducated guess. But I'm not going to pay for the full trport

Huh? How are these reports possible? Even though they are dated 2020 and 2021, they must have come from a time warp as nobody has made 3D TVs since 2016. Oh how I wish that they did. I would buy a 65" LG OLED passive 3D TV in a NY minute if they would start making them again (I have a 2016 55" OLED55E6P that I pray will last forever!).

I guess Disney is done with 3D...which means I have no need to give them any more of my money. Would have bought a 3D for any release from any studio, even though I prefer not to give Disney any more money, but they made it really easy for me now they ended 3D...so it seems WB is the only company continuing 3D discs? Is Sony done? I'd really like to get Venom 2 in 3D later in the year.

Universal just released THE CROODS: A NEW AGE in 3D on Feb in the US and still plans for releasing its 3D version in Hong Kong later this year
But I don't know whether they continue to release 3D discs in the future or not
I guess 3D will be ended later this year as 3D TV discontinued years ago

Hi collect,,

That was my original thought as well, however, this is an analysis of future world wide projections geared for industry scrutiny and not the consuming public.

Now we all saw marketing reports a decade ago claiming consumer analysis indicated much of the public wanted 3D in the home. However those were marketing ploys used by public relations firms. Survey questions were slanted to produce positive responses. Often the surveys were asked of those exiting a theater after watching a 3D movie and their responses were therefore based on the emotions of the moment.

In sum, those surveys were aimed to intentionally create hyperbole backed up by statistically misleading results.

This firm, whether correct or not in its metric conclusions, cannot indulge in this type of trickery with executives within the industry. Thats why I found it interesting since this type of preliminary information is not privy to the public.

Again, just an uneducated hunch - or hope on my part.

Obviously derailed here, but guessing 3d will be ended later this year because 3d TVs were discontinued years ago seems pretty arbitrary to me...

Nah, 3D TVs are not the only way to watch 3D at home. I say 3D will be a regular format as long as we keep asking the studios to release films on 3D Blu-ray.

Well, they have to be the ones to back up their claims with the industry.

All they have to do is make wild forward looking projections and sell their snake oil to the industry. They claim $102 billion in 3D TV sales for 2020. So who makes 3D TVs anymore? Answer: No one. Only projectors and that market is nowhere near that sales size. Even if they are counting commercial projector sales for business, schools, etc, the numbers still don't add up.

Yes, this could be bogus, developed by a sophisticated but fraudulent scammer who believe they can pull a quick one over a few naive middle management officials and shut down before being caught.

But the source of the report was reportlink. It appears legit and if so would not risk it's reputation with phoney content.

https://www.reportlinker.com/about

And use of PR Newswire as a distributor of a bogus report? It too has it's professional reputation at stake.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/PR_Newswire

PR newswire was indeed once hacked.

I too am very skeptical about the findings but PR newswire is a major content distribution network and requires oganization and personal Details before going further.

Who knows? I am not about to spend $5,400 to decipher their claims and projections

It might not be "bogus" in the sense of being written with the intent of fraud, but it could just be one of those articles written by bots rather than humans, and a bot might not "realize" that 3D TV has been discontinued as a new product if there are still sales of used models (and sales of 3D blu rays might also confuse a bot writing about the market for 3D TVs).
