I'm pretty ignorant to all the technical stuff so I was hoping someone could explain to me what exactly that DTS Neo:6 setting is and if I will notice any change with other movies if I leave it on off?
Neo:6 upmixes stereo to multichannel. It's completely useless.

Question

So, Walmart stocks the X-700 for the same price as other places' sale price. The only difference is, it's not the X-700/M, that comes with an HDMI cable. Is there anything special about the included cable? Is it worth paying $10 - $20 for? Does 4K require any kind of special cables, or will any HDMI I already have do?

I have the X-700/M, I purchased it from Target. The cable works and I'm very happy with the visual quality. No complaints.

I believe any HDMI cable will work with any UHD player, but others more technically proficient can correct me.

There's nothing special about the cable. It's not worth paying extra for. Any HDMI cable should work for 4K.

HDMI cables are interchangeable, but make sure it's a newer one (HDMI 2.0 spec).

Any idea why the ui/menu text looks so low resolution and blurry? Any way to fix that?

Sooo... they're *not* all interchangeable.

All of mine are years old, from when I first got an HDTV. So I guess it's time to upgrade!

The older cables sometimes have problems passing the full 4K HDR singal, that's all. Still no need to get anything expensive, I use these from Monoprice in the 6 ft ones and they work fine for everything.

I mean in terms of general functionality, although it does pay to get a higher quality brand simply because the quality control is generally better and it should last longer. But as far as construction goes, it's just a conduit, there's nothing in specific brands that will majorly enhance anything compared to a different type.

Nope. It's unfortunate but there's nothing you can do about it.

Apologies if this has been asked before, does this upscale Blu-rays? I have it connected to a Sony Bravia TV.

Thanks.

It can, but usually you want your TV to be doing the upscaling (unless you know your TV is bad at it).

This. As long as it's HDMI 2.0 the brand doesn't matter. All you're paying for after that is a name, and/or better construction/materials/QC etc.

Highly recommend BlueJeansCable. Good luck…….

New Series-4 UHD UHS Certified HDMI Cables:

https://www.bluejeanscable.com/store...les/s4hdmi.png

Our highest-speed certification cable is now our Series-4 UHD HDMI cable, available in 1-meter, 2-meter and 3-meter lengths. This cable is manufactured for us in Indonesia by Elka International, a manufacturing partner with whom we have worked for over a decade on a variety of HDMI cable products including our Series-FE and 1E cables, below. It bears the full UHS certification and carries the holographic certification label which can be scanned for spec verification. This will support any signal type, all the way through the current maximum bandwidth of 48.0 Gpbs (alternatively stated as 12 Gbps/pair).

(Region A locked player) Anyone know if there are any tricks to play non region A HD blu-rays on this player? From what I've read, Sony does not have any workarounds, but, my older region A locked Panasonic HD blu-ray player can play region b discs with workarounds, but, it began having issues last year, may be on it's way out.

Yes it does and since you have a Sony Bravia (same as me) leave the upscale setting on the player to auto 1.

Anyone having playback issues since the latest firmware update? I thought it was a certain disc, but, after playing another UHD disc, the picture will freeze as if it’s having trouble reading the disc and then after a bit it will skip forward and continue playing, sometimes having trouble again within a few minutes. I’ve only had this player about 6 months or so.

Just watched The New York Ripper UHD the other night with no issues.

Haven't had any problems with mine. I've watched about a dozen discs since the last update.

Just to clarify, I’ve played HD and 3D discs without issue, only UHD discs. …uh, and I just checked, both are BD 100 discs.

Also, it’s possible I had trouble like this months ago. …I don’t have many 4K/UHD discs yet, so, the issue may have been there all along?
