From one owner:

"The X700 gives me:

• Netflix: UHD and HDR10
• Amazon: UHD and HDR10
• YouTube: UHD and HDR10 with Codec vp9.2 (337)
• Vudu: UHD and still NO HDR10 as of 1/31/2018"

Vernacular is Everything.

What is UHD. Its only minimum requirenends:
Difference between Ultra HD and 4K
Technically, "Ultra High Definition" is actually a derivation of the 4K digital cinema standard. However while your local multiplex shows images in native 4096 x 2160 4K resolution, the new Ultra HD consumer format has a slightly lower resolution of 3840 X 2160.

This is one reason why some brands prefer not to use the 4K label at all, sticking with Ultra HD or UHD instead. However, the numerical shorthand looks likely to stick. As a broad brush label it's so much snappier!
On VUDU.COM____ UHD is designation of movies in

3840 X 2160 with Dolby Vision HDR and Atmos. A few don't have Atmos but is a high end audio.

All that is UHD. Versus 1080p which is HDX.

Without Dolby Vision at VUDU movies are just HDX.

What we need confirmation is___

Will x700 stream VUDU as
3840 X 2160 with Dolby Vision HDR and Atmos. A few don't have Atmos but is a high end audio.

Remembering the cousin Disc Player x800 streams vudu only as 1080p or HDX.

That is not true at all.

Not only has VUDU started supporting HDR10 on some devices but you CAN stream movies in the UHD resolution WITHOUT any form of HDR if you have a device that allows UHD but is not HDR capable.

Before my OLED I had 2015 Vizio M Series that streamed VUDU in UHD but was not HDR capable.

Default 4K & UHD :: what is the difference?

just to clarify :: UHD (2160p) is not a 'lower resolution'
it is :: simply a different aspect ratio
yes :: film is 4K (4096)
(2160p) cuts (4096 vs 3840 in width) that the 16:9 aspect ratio of consumer displays is accommodated
so :: 265-pixels or 132-pixels/per side are 'cut off' of a original film (4K) image that it is displayed to fit our 16:9 displays

note :: this does not represent a 'loss of resolution', rather simply a different aspect ratio :: resolution is equal

My experience with VUDU App on my e6 OLED mirrors
number (4 circled) for VUDU UHD. As UHD described there at link below #4...

http://www.watchvudu.com/UHD/

I don't have VUDU Selection for those other de·riv·a·tives.

Just the #4.

Number #4 VUDU UHD on Sony x700 will makes my home theater Very Happy

Most content is scaled, not cropped, in order to maintain the aspect ratio. You can get away with a crop from 1.85 to 1.78 which some studios do actually do, but on a 'scope movie it would change the ratio from 2.39 to roughly 2.23 and people would cry foul immediately. Remember, 1.85 is 3996x2160 while 'scope 2.39 is 4096x1716.

During this scaling process there is most DEFINITELY the chance for a "loss of resolution" because you have to use a powerful kernel just to effect this tiny change in resolution along both axes (roughly -6.25% in the case of a 'scope feature). The potential for aliasing increases hugely which is why 2K-to-1080p downscales are often pre-filtered so as to ameliorate this issue, and IMO is also why most 2K UHD upscales actually better their 1080p counterparts for sheer spatial resolution.

Now I wonder if the top pak without HDR has more movies to select than the bottom pak with Dolby Vision Atmos etc. Which currently have 158 DV movie selections today now.

I'm becoming quite interested in this player.... (for UHD, BD, DVD, CD and SACD playback)

A minor question in the great scheme of things... does this player have seamless DVD layer changes, or is there a short pause? (I believe the X800 is seamless but would like confirmation from somebody who owns this particular machine).

Thank you kindly :-)

Vudu. For other listed devices is UHD 4K HDR10, DV with Atmos or other premium sound.
Which typically VUDU cost $15-$29. And many times free with Disc case Movie Redeem Code.

But if your VUDU system is just 4K no HDR. And cost is also $15-$29... then Enjoy paying that. For 4K Disc Player would already upscale to 4K the 1080p HDX movies from VUDU already. Is that not true? And usually Vudu HDX 1080p movies is Cheaper than UHD DV Atmos movies.

Just Buy the Proper 4K Player or Device Source with VUDU App able to deliver streaming movies in DV, Atmos

Hopefully Sony will come out with a firmware update for the UBP-X800, so that the player has the latest apps.

They sure can do it but I doubt it, because they'd lose sales on the X700.
And if they don't update the apps on the X800 they'd lose loyal customers for life, and newer ones too.

LG UP970 just received its Official DV FW today.

Anyone here with a Sony DV TV that actually installed the Display's DV FW? And have the Lg UP970 as well. You can check SONY DV TV to LG DV UP970 pairing. Will it work???

Default Sony UBP-X800 :: Dolby Vision (support) :: 'it simply cannot'

Sony UBP-X800 :: official (Sony) :: cannot update this player to Dolby Vision

Sony tried and was unable to do so (yes :: Sony 'did try')

note :: therefore, when designing the UBP-X700, the Dolby Vision chipset (Dolby) was used, as the processor used in both players was determined to be insufficient to support Dolby Vision

note :: this situation is not hype/marketing/politics, it's simply that the electronics are unable to perform this task without the chipset (pure & simple), so it was used in the UBP-X700

That's strange, didn't you recently state that you had a Sony ZD9? And lord, we all know you have a LG UP970......can't you test it yourself?

You're in the wrong thread anyway, why not post it in the LG UP970 thread, the Sony ZD9 thread or the Sony update thread?

Quick question guys....my UHD player is the Sony X700. Do you guys recommend setting the output to 4K...or auto? I'm not sure which one is better...to have the UHD player do the upconversion(4K setting) for non-4K discs... or have the projector (Auto) do the upconverting for regular Blu-rays? Thanks in advance for any help!

Auto Translated:

We connected the Sony UBP-X700 to our LG 4K OLED TV (C6) and were penalized with a black screen after the flash of the Sony logo. The 4K OLED TV jumps back into the screen saver mode for a short time and reports "no signal". Thus, we change the HDMI input and the cable (3 cables tested, including an 18 Gbps cable which was included with the Panasonic DMP-UB900) only to come to the same result. The first 10 minutes have already passed and our test still can not begin.

Our first intuition was "maybe it's the extended color depth" that turned out to be right. We open the menu of the LG OLED and disabled under the General menu, the support for "HDMI Deep Color" on the HDMI input to which the Sony UHD player is connected and lo and behold: our TV "hangs" and leaves only one Resume warm start (5 seconds on the power button) or unplug the power supply.
More info at URL Above.

Of cource with future FW coming but for...
Sony x700 DV pairing to low latency DV Sony TV's.

Yes, we know that, the X700 is a newer player. We were talking about the apps firmware update, not Dolby Vision firmware update.
We are all hoping that Sony will support the X800 on the apps side. Dolby Vision won't be happening we've been reading the news from few sources @ different websites.

The 700 seems to be ahead on the apps department, over the 800.
And of course the future of Dolby Vision.

Normally you set that control to Auto. Because most TVs perform that upscale function better. You are using a Sony projector, I would set the 700 on Auto. Experiment, and try to see any difference.
