Hello all:
New to Google Play, but I thought all movies purchased/redeemed in Google Play were supposed to be available via YouTube? ![]() A couple weeks ago I redeemed ‘The Shape of Water’ via Google Play (the only redemption option available for us Canucks for this film). Just now checked my YouTube ‘Purchases’ section (both via my Apple TV app and my iPad app) and the film is nowhere to be found in either. It does appear in the Google ‘Play Movies’ app though. Any thoughts? Thank you. |

UPDATE: So, having talked to Google support, apparently the YouTube library is not as large as the Google Play library. Due to licensing issues some movies just don’t exist in YouTube so will not ‘port’ from Google Play. Crappy news for those of us in countries where the Google Play app is not available everywhere (e.g. Apple TV).

Most welcome.
Having said that, I've since discovered that 'The Shape of Water' is indeed in YouTube and I am credited as owning it...but it just isn't showing up in my 'Purchases'. Stranger still, the "Purchases" tally is correct (i.e. the number of movies it says I own in YouTube includes 'The Shape of Water') and if I go into "Manage My Purchases" it shows up. Hence, I'm now of the belief that this is just some kind of glitch. Hopefully temporary, since it would quickly become irritating to have to search YouTube for movies I think I own. Since there is no Google Play app for Apple TV (here in the Great White, at least) YouTube remains an important way for me to access those non-iTunes digital copies. |

I just noticed this issue as well. I bought the Demon House documentary when it was posted on Google Play. That evening, it displayed on my purchased list on YouTube, and that's how I watched it. A few days later, I noticed it disappeared. On several different devices that I tested, it never showed up (but my regular episodes of Ghost Adventures I purchased do, and continue to be displayed). I just made another movie purchase to see if the same thing happened, and it did. Strangely, both "movies" show up as being purchased, and the only way for me to watch them is to "start" it on the Youtube site, then pause and switch to my PS4 where I can find it under my viewing history.
Both movies display on the Google Play Movies & TV app on my phone.....just not Youtube. This sucks. ![]() |
