Hi there, with the imminent Flixster closure, and meeting my boyfriend of the past four months who is big into his Disney/Marvel movies, I've been getting more into Google Play, as lots of my UV purchases have or will be transferring over.
Recently, he set us up a family group so we can share our movies. We were trying out Toy Story 2, and Avengers: Infinity War, across both YouTube and the Google Play Movies app, and we couldn't get either movie to budge past 720p. Through YouTube, in the resolution settings, there's no toggle for 1080p at all, it hardcaps at 720p. Through googling, this seems to be a common theme for Disney movies on Google Play, at least in the UK (and maybe some other territories?). I'm seeing a very recent announcement that in America, 4K is now an option for some of their titles, so I'm assuming they were at least 1080p prior to that in America. Are we doing something wrong here? Or is there some strange restriction that Disney/Google have implemented for the UK/certain territories? What's strange is that all of Disney's HD content is at least 1080p on iTunes. Does anyone else have experience with this? |

actually tried this myself on my laptop which is an older laptop with a screen resolution of 1,366x768 so not full HD , while some movies on youtube would play at 1080p if selected , the star wars movies i tried and some other movies (so not just disney films) would indeed only go as high as 720p , although when i tried the star wars films on the youtube app on my phone which is a recent model they would play at 1080p ,
so it would seem to an issue with the device being used to play the films |
