Default Not getting 4k upgrades (Canada)

A month ago I started redeeming my digital codes on google play and from my understanding they were supposed to upgrade to 4k if available. Prior to this I only had Deadpool 2 and Wonder Woman on my account.

I added the Harry Potter Collection (code from 4k bluray bundle), Argo, Batman vs Superman, Man of Steel, Suicide Squad, and a few Sony ones. I do realize the Sony ones aren't supposed to upgrade but shouldn't the other ones?

So far nothing besides Deadpool 2 has upgraded to 4k.

Anyone have any suggestions?

There's no guarantee that we will get the free 4k upgrade from what I can see. Movies seem to redeem in HD even though I enter a 4k code.

I also have Argo, Man of Steel, Wonder Woman, and Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice and these have not upgraded.

I have the Harry Potter collection in 4k in Google and that's only because I had a code that redeemed in Movies Anywhere. The existing HD Harry Potter movies in my GP account were replaced with the 4k version.

I don't think there is anything that we can do and this is why I have resorted to buying 4k discs that can be redeemed in Movies Anywhere.

I am in Canada and sadly we don't have codes that are redeemable with Movies Anywhere. Thanks for your reply though.

The state of digital movie redemptions always seems to be in flux here in Canada. I can only speculate about what might be happening.

My most recent digital redemption was Die Hard 4K (Fox) a month or two ago. It redeemed in HD and did upgrade to 4K a couple of days later. Have also redeemed Aquaman 4K (WB) and Shazam 4K (WB) digital codes on Google Play Canada a few months ago, and they too received the in-place HD to 4K upgrade.

I've noticed that many titles on Google Play are now only available for purchase in 4K. In the past, you had the option of buying the HD or 4K versions. I'm wondering if Warner Brothers (which all of your titles seem to be issued by) has registered these 4K-only Google Play titles as different movies than their HD counterparts. If that were the case, Google Play would not be able to do the courtesy HD to 4K upgrade.

Or, it may be that Warner Brothers has changed their agreement with Google and, like Sony and Disney, is not permitting such 4K upgrades anymore.

The more recent Warner Bros. releases starting last year (with the exception of their animated stuff) have actually been the U.S. 4K Blu-Ray editions. In these cases, you can redeem the enclosed code in Movies Anywhere for the 4K version. This 4K license will push through to a Google Play Canada account attached to your Movies Anywhere account. (Basically, if the back of the box explicitly says that the code cannot be redeemed in Canada on Movies Anywhere, it seems to mean that the code actually can be redeemed on Movies Anywhere! It is just that they don't want Canadians redeeming their codes on Movies Anywhere.)

Oh, one more thing. When we all were migrating our digital movies from Flixster Video to Google Play, I did note that none of the titles were getting HD to 4K upgrades on Google Play. (This included such movies as Batman v. Superman and Wonder Woman.) I had assumed that the migration digital codes were special in some way and prevented the 4K upgrades from occurring. But maybe it is actually a more global problem.

Thought there might be something wrong with either WB codes or the day we redeem them...coz even my USA WB codes don't upgrade when 4k is available.
I was looking thru my GP list and thought the day I redeemed these WB codes must've glitched or something so went searching online to see if anyone had a similar problem. I redeemed US GP WB codes of Wonder Woman, Justice League, & Jupiter Ascending on Nov 25 and none of them upgraded to 4K.. so it's not just the codes Flixster generated. At first I thought they might've been CA codes but I double checked with https://play.google.com/store/account/orderhistory and they were USA codes, the CA codes have CA next to $ and UK codes have £

These should've all upgraded but they did not:
Mad Max: Fury Road USA WB GP code redeemed on Jan 10
King Arthur: Legend of the Sword USA WB GP & Secret Lives of Pets USA Universal codes redeemed on Jan 6
Oceans 8 USA WB, Legend of Tarzan USA WB, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them USA WB, Rampage USA WB, Oblivion USA Universal codes redeemed on Dec 5
Kong: Skull Island USA WB GP code redeemed on Nov 24
Central Intelligence & The Nun USA WB codes redeemed on Nov 22
Ready Player One & Blade Runner 2049 WB USA codes redeemed on Nov 19

Its not like GP stopped giving upgrades either coz Ready or Not & The Greatest Showman USA Fox GP codes upgraded earlier this year for me, but they're Fox, which to me is like 100% upgrade so far...
Its the WB & Universal codes that's not 100% to upgrade for whatever reason...
Aqua-Man USA WB code redeemed on Dec 6 upgraded.
Grinch 2018 & The House with a Clock in Its Walls Universal USA codes redeemed on Nov 23 both upgraded

I didn't have a day that I redeemed both Universal or WB codes and a code didn't get upgraded... seems like either all codes that particular day get upgraded or none get upgraded... but it is probably something else

from what I've read from posts from people asking the same thing, it seems like a few universal movies are doing the upgrade. JP:Fallen kingdom, skyscraper and US. They don;t port 4k, only hd to linked platforms.

Just making sure, codes from a Sony 4k Canadian disc will redeem as HD and never upgrade, right?

I see ppl advertising they have CA 4k codes for Sony movies and I don't think that exists unless something changed recently....
