I’m sorry to bother everyone again with My tv questions. I appreciate any and all advice. I’m looking at upgrading my bedroom tv to one of two choices. My first choice is a LG 48” CX, and my second choice is a Sony 49” X950H.

The two biggest concerns with OLED are motion stuttering on 24 FPS, since I hate SOE, and burn-in. But, I’m willing to chance burn-in, if the set handles motion well.

Now, how close is the X950H 49” to OLED on black levels and picture quality?Does it come close to the OLED? If the Sony comes close, I’d be willing to go with the Sony and call it a day.

Most of all, I just want a really high quality, sub 50” set, to watch my 4K and Blu Ray movies on, with good motion handling. That could handle DirecTV sports and DirecTV channels as well. Which TV would fit my needs more?

I just learned that YouTube tech reviewer Whisper Status 74 has bought a CX. He also has the X950H, and will be doing in-depth comparisons between the two. I’ll be watching closely when it comes down to motion on 24 FPS,and overall dark room performance between the two.

I ended up purchasing a 49” Sony X950H as a replacement for my 43” Vizio V Series bedroom tv. I wanted the 48” LG CX OLED, but I couldn’t pull the trigger due to almost a $1000 price difference, once protection plans were figured into the equation. As for the Sony, it is a marvelous set and with great picture quality. If you are looking for a set, and can’t fit OLED into your budget, grab the 49” Sony 950H. It is the best LED/LCD in this size you’ll find. It’s a very good set, even when compared to OLED.

Default Connecting my system to the XBR 950H

I just purchased a 55" XBR 950H and I am receiving much conflicting info from many sides. Typically I would connect everything through my two year old Onkyo receiver and watch either BluRays (HD and normal) from my Oppo 203 and most programming via my Roku Ultra. Some have told me that I should ditch the Roku and use the Android TV options on the Sony, connect the arc (earc) from TV to the Onkyo and connect the video out from the Oppo to the Sony and the audio out only HDMI to the receiver. Anyone care to jump in and confuse me more? Thanx!

I have the 65" 950H since June. I have my Roku hooked up, I don't use the apps on the TV because several user reviews said they were kind of glitchy. I have an Oppo 203 connected via HDMI to the TV for visuals, and the audio HDMI from the Oppo connected directly to my receiver. Just my method....works perfectly for me

Default 950 H hookup questions

Thanks very much for the reply. Do you use arc or earc and are you satisfied with the set? Sorry for so many questions. I'm a red the manual, twice, and then go online kind of guy.

The X950H is still my first choice for LCD screens. The 65” retailed for $2600 and sells for $2300 new. Now I find an open box for $1840 and I wanna pull the trigger but it’s online only. The store doesn’t say on its website why it was returned but I keep wondering that it’s gotta be bad if they’re discounting it that much. I can’t decide if I should buy or wait til November when a new set is sure to be discounted a lot. Any opinions?

(All prices mentioned are in Canadian dollars.)

EDIT: I chatted with a CSR from Best Buy and they said that it's impossible for them to know why it was returned. That there's likely nothing wrong but that the customer changed his/her mind about the purchase. That if there IS a performance issue, it would've been addressed by Geek Squad before being resold. That if there were cosmetic damages then there's no way to know. And that I'd still have the 30-day return window and the 1 year manufacturer's warranty. I suggested that with such a big price drop there MUST be something wrong with it, but he said that open box TVs are priced to sell to get rid of them as fast as possible. Oh, and he still recommended the Geek Squad Protection.

EDIT2: I bought it. Without Geek Squad Protection. Delivery next Thursday.

I'm trying to enjoy this tv, but every time I watch stuff I just find my self fiddling with the picture and sound and it's driving me nuts. I put in the Frozen 2 blu-ray and things were good except when it comes to the songs. No matter what sound setting I put it on, the music was always louder than the singing.

As someone who just streams regular content and has regular blu-rays, maybe a 4k tv isn't for me.

It may not have anything to do with the TV. I use external speakers and I find music and sound effects are often louder than dialogue on BDs. Drives me nuts but at least many BDs aren’t like that.

Curious to what people would recommend for a 65" TV (X950H, X900H, TCL 2020 6-Series, Hisense H9G). Would mainly be used for watching 4K movies and sports. Money isn't an issue.

X950 if money isn't an issue and you aren't a competitive/serious gamer.

Not a gamer at all. Just an avid movie watcher, both discs and streaming. RTINGS analysis suggests that the H9G would be better, but I'm not sure if that's accurate or not.

Oh, wow. I hadn't seen their H9G review yet.

Looks like it has a much worse out of the box picture quality/color accuracy BUT...with the cost difference a calibration would be an easy decision to get it up to its potential.

The Sony 65X900H is going to be on sale at Costco (their model # is 65X90CH) for $969.99 starting Sept. 30...a drop in price of $400 (probably clearing out the 2020 models). It is an excellent TV.

Personally, the X950H would be my first choice, the X900H my second.

We got an open box 65X950H a few weeks ago. My wife and I are still dazzled by the picture quality. She refers to the TV as a “magnificent beast”.

Thanks, Costco is going to have the X900H on sale this week, but I'm kind of tempted by the H9G given RTINGS good rating of it. I'm honestly not sure what I'll do, tempted by an OLED as well, but my room is kind of bright.

I bought the X950H a few days ago. I am running my 4K player (Sony UBP-X700) through my Sony Soundbar (HTZ9F). I could use some help understanding a small detail...

When I turn HDMI Enhanced mode on both the TV and the Soundbar, the player has all sort of issues and basically wont work. When i turn Enhanced mode on only one of the two, it works splendidly.

My question is, assuming I only need to turn Enhanced on one, should it be the soundbar as it is what is passing the information to the tv? Or the opposite?

Thanks in advance!

I’ve had my 65” for a week now and am happy with my choice. Came from a 8 year old 42” Samsung 1080p plasma and this is my first LCD. Blacks are comparable to the old plasma, brightness is crazy good though and the detail and colours are amazing. 4k UHDs look great and I do not regret buying them over the last year in preparation. I sit 9’ away my only regret is not getting the 75” which would just barely fit in my setup but is too overpriced in Canada
