Princess Bride not Movies Anywhere - Blu-ray Forum

Sems like this is a FOX movie but not Movies Anywhere? Or am I missing something? It is the only movie that I have in just itunes as most my non Movies Anywhere movies were dual redeem or I now pick VUDU.

"The Princess Bride" is an MGM film.

MGM is not a participating studio in Movies Anywhere at this time.

Fox only distributed the blu-ray.(Like how Criterion is distributing it too) MGM is the owner of the film including the digital rights. Like Alan said, MGM doesn’t participate in Moviesanywhere.

Only saw the Fox logo on the case. Looking again I see the MGM as well. With Roku now doing Apple TV it isn't as big of a deal for me.

Disney seems to have gotten rights to it through Fox acquisition as it is being added to their Disney Plus streaming service.

The Princess Bride was produced by Act III Communications and Buttercup Films, but had distribution sent to various entities. Fox only had initial theatrical rights in the US, but supposedly got US TV rights in perpetuity. Vestron International obtained theatrical, video, and TV rights overseas, which explains why Lionsgate (who controls the Vestron/Artisan/Trimark catalog) owns international rights outright today.

Nelson Entertainment, who had acquired Embassy Pictures (which also had ties to Act III Communications) and it's home video catalog, obtained US theatrical rights from Fox and US video rights from the Embassy ownership. Nelson became engulfed into Polygram, and MGM later acquired the pre-1996 Polygram catalog which includes the Nelson titles. That explains how MGM owns theatrical, video, and most streaming rights in the US. Note that Fox also distributed MGM titles on video, but that was through a licence partnership. MGM still owns the video rights to their own catalog ether way and has the final say on video rights outside of the Fox deal, which explains how other companies have been able to release MGM product including Criterion putting out their BD of Princess Bride.

Streaming rights are supposedly the same as TV rights, but it depends on how many parties own the title and if more than one company are assigned digital rental/ownership rights to a storefront, or rights to have it live for a limited time on a subscription based rotating VOD platform like Netflix, Hulu, etc. MGM owns digital rental/ownership rights, while Fox seems to have digital rights for subscription based platforms inherited from the TV rights.

Disney+ is a classified as a rotating VOD platform, and since Disney owns Fox and Hulu, it's possible they got digital rights to those platforms as they're separate from the digital storefronts MGM owns rights on.
