Thumbs up Sony 2021 Z9J 8K HDR TV

The Sony Allocation G-ds were very kind to us again! This time they brought us Sony's new Z9J 8K TVs.

Sorry no pics of them set-up, but I'm taking one home tonight and we'll have the others set-up tomorrow in our showroom for all of the YouTube a/v channels to see and we'll have our first findings to discuss and compare the Z9J to other 8K TVs and the best new 4K TVs too.

Very sorry to say we found an error in the CalMAN transition of how the meter was reading the Z9J peak luminance and what the actual peak luminance actually is. Here's the corrected peak luminance in the Custom and Vivid HDR modes:

Custom HDR
1% 2,481
2% 2,113
5% 2,091
10% 1,944
25% 1,237
50% 856
75% 717
100% 671

Vivid HDR
1% 2,666
2% 2,675
5% 3,075
10% 2,286
25% 1,406
50% 951
75% 817
100% 813

Sony's 75" and 85" Z9J prices drop by $1,003 each starting today!

Also very aggressive sale prices for LG's new 65", 75" and 86" 2021 QNED99 8K HDT TVs also starts today, Monday, August 23.

Some very good news for any gamer who owns or is considering the Z9J. Sony has started rolling out a new firmware update which, among other things, enables local dimming in VRR mode on the Z9K, X95K, X90K, Z9J, X95J and X90J.

I’m getting a Panasonic UB9000 to mate to the Z9J, though I’ve been quite happy with my Sony X800M2 which isn’t that old. Since I think HDMI 4 is the only input that handles an 8K signal, even though no player has that capability yet (if ever), would I be advised to run the player directly to that input and run the audio only HDMI through the Yamaha receiver? Would that be any perceptible improvement or merely complicate the routing needlessly? Just wondering.

This may be helpful (found at BB Z9J webpage).

A:Answer Hi Cezar, Thank you for your inquiry! For this, we recommend having the AV Receiver connected to the HDMI 4 input of the TV and follow the steps on our Help Guide link on how to enjoy 8K on the Sony XR75Z9J TV. https://helpguide.sony.net/tv/iusltn..._02.html?hl=8k I hope this helps! Great, thanks. I’ll switch things to the HDMI 4, and if my Yamaha doesn’t accommodate 8K out, will just run the audio through the receiver. Appreciate the tip.

Edit: Looks like no 8K pass through, even though only 4 year old receiver; will use direct connection to HDMI 4 and use audio output to generate the surround as usual.
