Default Mobile Phones (iPhone & Android) 2021 and 2022 ...

A thread for all models, all prices, best performance for the buck, camera features, ... all that jazz.

On another thread I started with the best (pricier) tablets/iPads on the market (2021), and I've not yet explored the mid-price and budget models...I will...in time.

Here I'll start with a mid-range phone; the Samsung Galaxy A52 (2021 model) for roughly $400 USD (sale). I don't have one, considering it ...

If you buy a good quality DSLR camera, how much do you expect to pay?
For me the cameras on portable phones are number one priority features...that's me.
We all have our prefered features in each device; normally a portable phone is for telecommunication, but today for some it is not necessarily so the number one priority.
It's important a good quality reception, sound, ... but it is not the end of the world. You also want to share what your eyes are seeing where you are.

I've watched hundreds of video reviews and read hundreds of articles on portable phones, up to the latest top guns. I believe that you don't have to spend more than $500 for a quality portable phone with the features you like. Of course some people want the newest and bestest of the bunch...$1,000 and up. I'm good with best for less, you?

I had been upgrading my iPhone every second year when my contract was over.
I’ll get the top iPhone but only 256k of storage. I never get close to maxed out, so this works for me.

Before my contract was up last fall, I was considering moving to a Samsung S20(?) because of frustration with iTunes.
I didn’t but only because I feel I’m not techie enough to learn a whole other system.

Now iTunes has my music upgrading to lossless and I’m pleased with that. I don’t think I’ll switch now.

I’m of the mind that cell phones are so packed with killer cameras and great apps that it won’t matter which phone maker a person goes with.
I could’ve upgraded last October but my iPhone XS Max does more that I am able to and upgrading is pointless. I wish I could use it to more of its capabilities, like my Ex does with hers.

For most people it comes down to which ecosystem they're in.
Very few people live in both ecosystems.

In general Apple iPhones are more expensive, and their performance @ the top. Samsung Android phones offer good value, and good cameras.

I started with a Samsung phone ($400 on sale) because of the value.
But this thread is only starting. Apple iPhones will appear too, and @ various prices...same for Android phones.

There's no one phone above them all; it is what it is for each user.
Stay tuned for comparisons between Apple and Android ...

There is no doubt; the Samsung A52 Android phone offers excellent value and performance in its price range ... $400 on sale (Reg. $500 US).
It's probably the best (one of) in 2021 for the price.
_____

☆ Top Gun's comparison (hiend) ...

And because the cameras are an important feature on an everyday portable phone ... for me it is.

Back to mid-range smartphones ... BEST BANG FOR THE BUCK
▪︎Google Pixel 4a & 4a 5G

For fun, because my brother has the iPhone 11 ... (twice the price of the Galaxy A52)
Is it worth it? He's an Apple man; his entire ecosystem and family are based on Apple products.
His son even works with Apple.
Me? I follow the sun...where the wind blows...Androids, value, ...all that jazz.
...Health, wealth and happiness...in the mid-range, for now.

And from last year ... another budget phone to compare with Samsung Galaxy A52 and Google Pixel 4a (5G or not) ... the iPhone SE

* We're in the $300-500 range territory here (roughly)...depending of 5G versions, and the sales.
To me it's the G spot, the sweet spot of smartphones.

I love the freedom that Android offers, but I don't see the point of yearly switching phone. Besides, you'd need to reinstall everything and recustomize.

Anyway, phones these days are way too big and will eventually replace tablets.

A mid/higher-end phone that offers good value when on sale is the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G.
HDR10+ video support, and Dolby Atmos audio (AKG).

It came out last fall (2020). And, it will be replaced this fall by the Galaxy S21 FE 5G.
So the S20 FE 5G should sell for less, soon. And the newer S21 FE 5G should retail $100 less than the one it replaces from last year. If in no rush keep an eye on it...September.

We love in a free world. We can switch every six months or stick to six years.
And we can make automatic transfers, from one phone to another.
Anyway ...

Some phones are smaller...iPhones (some models), and some Androids too.
Some portable phones open up like a small tablet.
Some Tablets are small (8") from Apple, and other vendors...Samsung.

Some tablets are larger than some laptops...the new Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra (14.6").

* Cameras on smartphones are much much better than cameras on tablets.
Who carries a big tablet around in his pocket to take pictures?

A 6.5" screen is nice for a smartphone; you can view pictures better, read texts better, watch flicks on Netflix, YouTube videos, play games, and it is still portable to put in your pocket.
You can shoot videos, snap photos, ...anywhere, everywhere, anytime, with only one hand, sometimes zero hand (paragliding, surfing, bicycling, ...). Go pro or go home.

Can a smartphone replace a tablet that replaces a laptop? Some smartphone's processor chips have enough power and RAM and ROM to give many laptops a run for their money.
We live in a miniaturized world that is both powerful and waterproof. ...All in one palm of the hand. We are changing the landscape of law and order by capturing live events as they play out in front of us. Our culture is fast changing. We are tracking our footsteps wherever we travel and whenever we transact. It's hard to keep up for the private companies.

Anyway ...

Last year (2020) smartphone awards ... specific categories (fun) ...

* For 2021 awards there are still five months to go, but it's very possible that some that I mentioned already in this thread are among them.

And this fall we might see the award for the phone of the year 2021, the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE 5G ... who knows ... And some folding phones are coming up too, and soon.

You sure can and Google offers that, but on Android I love to customize it to exactly as I had it before so it tends to take a while to put everything back to how it was before.

iOS is pretty much what's shown so there's little room for that and makes the whole automatic transfer a whole lot quicker.

I like to have each device customized uniquely. I don't have two exact same devices, except for two universal remote controls...but they are not smartphones.

I changed from a iphone 6 to a 12 pro and i got to say I'm disappointed to say the least! My 6 was far better reception wise, constant cut and dropped calls and switching off 5g does not fix it. Amazing how a damn cell phone gets worse at the one fning thing it is supposed to do which is be a damn phone!

That's quite few years back ... seven (2014 model)
https://www.notebookcheck.net/Apple-....127057.0.html

And now ... one of the top very best; OLED with HDR10 and Dolby Vision.
https://www.notebookcheck.net/Apple-....504562.0.html

Call reception is important for you; read the pro reviews from your region to see which ones have the best call receptions. How long do you have your iPhone 12 Pro?

* The iPhone 12 Pro is my favorite phone design, like Apple top 2021 tablets, and the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+ and S7 (I'm using). I like the flat sides...it exudes hiend.

This phone (superb main 64 MP camera, with OIS and AF) is $424.99 right now.
It will be below $400 on Black Friday ($399.99 or less).

Talk about value here; that main camera takes hiend videos like a pro.
Super Amoled 6.5" display (FHD+), 120HZ refresh rate, IP67, 4,500 mAh battery, long battery time, fast charging support, 5G, headphone jack!
3 years of major OS updates (up to Android iOS 14), 4 years support of security patches.
Snapdragon 750G, extendable memory card slot (up to 1TB), 128GB ROM, 6GB RAM.

Find me another phone with all those features and main quality camera built for around $400 US ($529.99 Cdn). Good lock. Don't forget the high demand for that headphone jack.

• USA: https://www.samsung.com/us/business/...m-a526uzkdxaa/

• Canada: https://www.samsung.com/ca/smartphon...caAplFEALw_wcB

I did my research already; it is one of the best overall value in that price range.
You don't need a $1,000 phone when half or less would do like this one here.
