Question for TCL users - Blu-ray Forum

I've got the QLED 65in 4k tv from TCL and they seem to have an annoying issue with darker scenes that I cant figure out how to fix. I noticed this on my other TCL before and cant figure it out, its like it elevates the brightness in the areas around objects in darker scenes and it makes them look milky and ugly.

Its definitely a feature because it seems like it follows objects and is changing all the time, but I cant seem to figure out how to fix it. At first I thought it was dynamic contrast but if I turn that down or off it just makes the entire image look as bad as the problematic areas.
Anyone know the answer to this?

Not one person here can answer this shit? Itd be nice to watch any dark scenes without people/objects looking like they have a grey glow over top of them following their movement. Like, I cant get a photo of it with my camera as it adjusts the contrast or doesnt show but I've recreated a similar look in photoshop of what it resembles.

Its like this, sort of, and it follows any objects around.

Couldnt find any answers anywhere else but one forum sounded like people were discussing this issue in relation to their Roku devices, which almost makes sense as TCL are Roku tv's but I still dont know.

It looks like it's related your TV's dynamic backlight. The display has a number of "zones" across the screen that are responsible for adjusting the brightness of the display on the fly.

Find the setting responsible for the regulation of your dynamic backlight or dynamic brightness and turn it down or off.

It seems like a “blooming” issue, related to local dimming. My TCL doesn’t seem to have this problem. I should mention, however, that I keep my picture toned down a good bit. I watch in a dimly lit room and dislike a bright screen. Try reducing the backlight and contrast. Believe it or not, I keep those settings at zero (!).

If you were having this issue with your previous tv, then maybe all it needs is to be calibrated properly. There are calibration discs that you can buy to help calibrate you tv.

Thanks for the replys. I have turned the backlight down which has helped reduce this issue a bit. I had the TV calibrated when it was able to be which reduced the problem but sometimes when you change the HDMI input it resets all the settings. I've since gotten it a bit under control, at least to the point of not being that noticeable.
