What a final and the perfect closing chapter of an amazing career. (Still a few lines to write I hope.)

Messi rolled back the years during the tournament whilst passing the torch to Mbappe during the final. Both on a par with each other during the match but at very different points of their career.

With a global audience Messi has shown those watching the peak of his passing, dribbling and goal scoring. He didn't need to do it for 90 minutes, he may not be able to do it for 90 minutes, but when needed; he turned it on and he had a hand (foot) in nearly everything goal wise.

Its been an absolute pleasure to watch Messi over the last month and his career. No player has excited me more when they receive the ball during a game. I can't tell you how many game i've watched him play for Barcelona, i've lost count. But even during his quieter games I never felt disappointed because he always managed to do something that amazed/impressed. A truly special talent who has fulfilled their destiny and then some.

Special credit to the goalie. Two massive saves during the knockout stages.

I've never seen Di Maria play particularly well but what a time to shine. Picked the perfect moment.

The Argentina team may not be full of superstar players but what a spirit and unity in a shared goal.
