Thumbs up

Finally got a chance to watch Dynasty 3D blu ray 3D on my 100" screen projection of 3D:

Dynasty Quick 3D Review:

3D Layering: 10/10 Strong 3D layers throughout.
3D Pop Outs: 10/10 Very strong pop outs are plentiful and deliberate. On my screen, many pop outs extend several feet out of the screen.
3D Framing: 10/10 Compositions are clever and well framed often.
3D Restoration: 10/10 Another great result thanks to the team at 3-D Film Archive.
Favorite 3D shot: The battle behind the red candles, where the row of red candles were in strong dimension and well composed in front of the fighters.

Overall: 10/10 for the 3D in this entertaining martial arts classic of 70s Kung Fu Martial Arts Cinema, Dynasty 3D. I grew up in the 80s watching these every Saturday afternoon. In this film Dynasty, lots of action, swords fights, roundhouse kicks and some acrobatics. The English dubbing includes some recognizable voice actors who often dubbed many films of that time. I'm very much looking forward to the next release, the Shogun Women Martial Arts film.

I'll test out the anaglyph red/cyan version soon as well.
Grateful for this restored entertaining 3D addition to my 3D library.

I REFUSE to believe this is out of print already, despite being unavailable at amazon. If it was, they would have cancelled my preorder. Mine still shows not yet shipped, despite ordering a long time ago.

It's *not* out of print. Where do these ridiculous rumors start?

Kino is looking into it and this should be corrected shortly.

Stayed up late last night to watch this (well, late for me anyway). What a lot of goofy fun! All fights and 3-D effects, no real plot but who watches these chop socky flicks for plot anyhow? I haven't seen this since the anaglyphic showings in the 1980s (I did videotape it back then). The 3D Film Archive job is spectacular. The gimmick shots come way out of the screen and the depth is fantastic. While this isn't exactly a movie I'd watch every month or even every year, I do see myself returning to it from time to time.

To avoid any delays with getting our next restored Kung Fu title this summer, I highly recommend pre-ordering via Kickstarter.

Had it pre-ordered on Amazon, but this is almost a 4 difference from my pre-order price. Hopefully it will ship in the next few days.

Just got an email confirmation that my order has shipped. They also have this in stock at the moment so it a safe bet if other places have it out of stock.

That's sloppy reporting for sure. It even says at the beginning of the analgyph presentation something to the effect of it using a new patent-pending technology.

I had great fun watching this over the weekend. Goofy film for sure, with lots of cheesy fight choreography. I had a hard time early-on following what the plot was, until late in the film when it did get a bit more interesting. But it was totally entertaining throughout. The kung-fu was completely hilarious and over-the-top, and I'm normally not a fan of this type of film, but the 3D made it all worth it. Outstanding depth and extreme pop-outs throughout. What surprised me was how well it was shot for 3D. Some fantastic compositions here. I especially loved the shots looking through the beaded curtains to the action beyond. So realistic you could shift your focus from the beads in the front to the action behind it.

The image quality was very good considering the source material, other than the end reel which sadly had more damage. The audio sync was a bit loose, with some of the sound effects being a bit early, but that may trace back to the original mix, as I'm not sure how well these films do with sound effects sync in general.

Overall another terrific release from Kino and the 3D Film Archive. I really felt like I had just traveled back in time to the 70's to view this rare treat in a 3D theatre. Loved seeing my name in the end credits too. Fun stuff!

That's not damage in the last reel, that's dirt in the Super Touch lens system. Watch the featurette to learn more about those baked-in anomalies that are not fixable.

I thought in the digital era everything was "fixable"

It looks like the review has been updated/corrected. It now reads "Also included is an anaglyph 3D version of the film, which aired on TV during the 1980s, but the version presented here is a new 2021 master using 3-D Film Archive's newly developed Adaptive Multi-Band Anaglyphic Encoding process."

I think everything's "fixable," just not affordable so. Which is why it's so unlikely some series will ever be upgraded to HD despite having been shot on film.

Aw the heck with amazon. I cancelled the preorder just now,and ordered from a 3rd party seller on amazon called newtown video. If amazon cant even complete a preorder 2 days later, they dont deserve my money.

The cheapest I see on Amazon right now is $24 shipped. Newtown's listing is near $30.

Meanwhile Kino Lorber, the actual distributor, has it for $17.97 on their site, or $25.97 shipped, presuming you don't buy anything extra to get free shipping:

Could be wrong, but I dont think Kino ships overseas. The others wouldnt ship to me,so newtown it was,and its already entered shipping soon, which amazon couldnt do in over 2 days, and a 3rd party seller did.

I just bought mine from Target.com for $19.99 (less if you have redcard and free shipping) and it will be here tomorrow!
