Just finished my first DIY speaker set this past weekend. C-Notes. They sound great!

Seven years ago I bought the materials to build a pair of speakers and then life got in the way. I thought the components were lost to the sands of time, but a couple weeks ago I found them again and finished the build!

This is my first DIY speaker project, so they're by no means professional quality, but I learned a lot and I'm really proud of how they turned out. They sound fantastic and are now the nicest speakers I own.

I made these using the GR Research X-LS Encore kit adapted to an enclosure of my own design. The enclosures are a front-ported design, with the boxes made from dense MDF and the front baffles from walnut.

I am an amateur woodworker with only rudimentary tools, so the enclosures are a little rough and ready, but I did my best. I learned a lot that I can apply to my next build, so hopefully I can keep improving from here.

I would love to know what you think! I have been really enjoying listening to them. They are crystal clear and detailed, and they're giving new life to some of my favorite recordings. The DIY bug has bitten me. I'm sure I'll be back for more.

They look pretty sweet! I thought about doing my own subwoofer but haven't had the time to play around with it yet.

Thanks! I think building a sub would be really fun. That might have to be the next thing I do.

Your sub turned out really nice. I love the look of that kevlar woofer, and I think the duratex finish is a good route to go for big units like that.

And wow, those 1099's look insane! I wish I had room for those monsters.

Thank you.

If/when I get to do some 1099's I'll still use the Duratex, but I'll thin it 50% or so and spray it for a smooth finish instead of textured. The Duratex is as thick as pudding can be thinned with water.
