I'll show it to ya later ! I'm watching the AF vs Navy game on my PC as we speak ( I can also record and time shift with it).

Back to sound cards ... The HT omega is seen as a rival to the Essence ST. Both cards are excellent and give me the capability of 7.1 RCA analog outs ( but the H6 daughter card for the Asus is discontinued). With that, my choice is the Omega.

AudioTrak HD2 - I now use this just for optical out, but it is quite a nice sounding card just using RCA.

I also have M-Audio 24/96 and a Chaintech AV-710. These are both used to feed DAC's though.

Ok, I'll wake up a dead thread....I went with the Asus Essence ST (pci) with the H6 daughter card (it came back into production)! Loving this card!

Do you have Directwire with your AudioTrak sound card?! I love that feature because it "allows you to virtually patch all of your digital audio internally between various software programs". That's a nice feature indeed!

Wakie, Wakie, - I think I may have already posted this but now I'm using a Phonic Firefly 808u as a sound card connected via firewire. Excellent card with plenty of expansion room.

Asus Xonar D2. I love how the RCA ports light up, for colour coding.

Although I rarely use my PC for audio/video playback. And don't really game on it anymore. But I still remember the difference I heard from using the on board audio, which wasn't bad either.

Same here, its an oldie but a goodie and that breakout box is huge, but it does make connecting stuff easy.

That looks nice! Never knew that about the D2. I'm back to using my Asus Xonar Essence ST/H6 combo - I will have Muses upgrades on-deck soon!!!

Asus Xonar DX. I have cable running from the 3.5mm out to RCA cables, which run into an Outlaw stereo amp I have. From there I can connect headphones and speakers and it sounds quite nice. I'm probably going to find myself using it less now though since I now have a Fiio X5 portable media player that can act as a USB DAC for the computer. For some odd reason many of the Asus sound cards don't output 88.2 or 176.4 kHz files which was quite annoying sometimes.

I have an ASUS Xonar D1. It's a big improvement over the onboard audio (not that the onboard is bad), but I'm thinking about upgrading to an HT Omega Claro Halo for its headphone amp.

The Claro Halo is a nice card indeed - I have one in my second HTPC (the XT version).

Creative Sound Blaster Audigy RX, 106dB SNR, 24-bit 192 kHz, 600 ohm headphone amp, not a bad card for under $50. No problems with drivers, I'm running Windows 8.1, think it sounds pretty nice.

Question, do any of you use Galvanic isolation to prevent noise coming off the PCI bus?

I bought a pre built medium range gaming pc last year ($600 range). Recently the audio has been starting to flake out and I need to get a new soundcard but don't really know how to go about doing it and making sure it'll definitely work with my system.

The audio will play fine and then suddenly start sounding computerized for brief split seconds, and then back to normal.

I can uninstall the drivers and restart and it'll play fine for awhile and then start doing it again.

This is the info I have right now on what sound device I have.

I'm using Windows 10 as well.

What are some suggestions? I'm on a budget here with limited income so no $100 + audio suggestions, please. lol

Try this, it works for many crackling and popping problems:

Single left click on Speaker icon in taskbar bottom right.
Single click on speaker icon above the volume level.
Click on Levels.
Reduce Line In 2/Mic 2 to zero.
Apply
OK

If that doesn't work try updating your motherboard bios and sound drivers.
