I'm too cheap to buy replicas so I build and paint a lot of model kits...and build a few things from scratch.

Moebius Models ELVIRA:

Pegasus kit of Uncle Martin and his ship from MY FAVORITE MARTIAN:

Aurora kit of THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON:

Moebius Models FRANKENSTEIN:

You may not be able to afford some of the more expensive collectibles but you sure have a talent for painting which is priceless in itself. Most of us can't do that so we have the wallet do the talking.

Thanks guys!

Here's some things that are a bit different. These are vehicles all built from scratch....wood turned on a lathe with other pieces sawn and carved:

This is the "Space Ark" from WHEN WORLDS COLLIDE. This one is pretty big. It's 26" long.

Here's the Rocketship M-1 from ABBOTT & COSTELLO GO TO MARS.

The MARS-1 from FLIGHT TO MARS (about 18" tall)

And the Orbit Jet from ROCKY JONES, SPACE RANGER.

Truth is, I DON'T find the room . Most of these things end up buried in my basement. One of my largest projects...the Spindrift from the TV show LAND OF THE GIANTS is under my basement stairs:

Wow, as mentioned, you have awesome painting skills! I'm also a sucker for the classic monsters... and Elvira!

I'm actually just getting into model kit building and painting myself. I'm very excited for it, but I have much to learn. I'm starting off with a (probably too complicated for my level) model Titanic. Let's see how that goes.

The problem with model ships is that they require a lot of "busy" work that makes it slow to see progress. It's not that they are especially difficult...just a bit frustrating. I find the biggest problem with model building is that you can often lose motivation if you don't see things coming together. EVERY model builder in the world has multiple projects that started out with high hopes but never got finished. I'm still working on a C-57D from FORBIDDEN PLANET that I began in 2002 but I got frustrated by the fiddly interior detail .

It wouldn't hurt to buy a monster model or figure kit to work on while your Titanic is still in progress. Again, most model builders have multiple kits in their "stash" and often have a few projects going at the same time. When you get a bit tired of working on one, put it away for awhile and try the other.

Here's a couple of in-progress pics of Elvira. One advantage of the figure models is that you tend to see obvious progress after each building session.
