wtf
especially for international customers that's shitty, because shipping something to US can get really really expensive. I contacted Strictly Limited Games regarding a soundtrack CD included with one of their Collector's Editions. I didn't even want a replacement, was just wondering what was going on. It took a while but they directly told me that they would print new discs and send me a replacement. And I haven't even received the Collector's Edition yet lol and not a word about sending anything back. Now that's customer service. |

I agree. The contents are trash for $65. No excuse for not including at least a steelbook for that price. I'm definitely not picking this CE up for the cover. I might get the regular edition, but not sure on that just yet.

Got tired of having to lookup Metacritic scores for LRG releases to get a better idea of whether they're good or probably suck, so I adapted a spreadsheet someone else originally posted to Reddit. This is updated with all numbered LRG Switch releases to date, and including Metacritic scores as long as the game has at least 3 reviews. Yeah, I realize it can be hard to judge a lot of the more obscure LRG releases Metacritic scores to to the small number of reviews.
Below are the games with >85 on Metacritic. This is about that I expected. I knew House in Fata Morgana was an extremely well reviewed game, with Divinity and Celeste (had a 10 from IGN) the other 90+ average review score games. Average Metascore score is a 76. I have read that the average Metascore for Switch games is right around 70, so a typically LRG release is a bit higher. The number of games with <70 is quite small (30 of 160 games scored). https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...f=true&sd=true Release#, Game, Metacritic 101 The House in Fata Morgana 96 055 Divinity: Original Sin 2 - Definitive Edition 93 023 Celeste 92 089 Towerfall 89 118 Dusk 88 150 Unsighted 88 164 Radiant Silvergun 88 025 Iconoclasts 87 065 Streets of Rage 4 87 119 Quake 87 131 There Is No Game 87 160 DoDonPachi Resurrection 87 021 Shantae and the Pirate's Curse 86 039 Transistor 86 078 Return Of The Obra Dinn 86 |

Would be interesting to have the user reviews as well and maybe the metacritic scores of the original releases in the cases of old ports.
What's for example ridiculous is that reviewers review Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast, which is a great game, but give it low scores because it's an old game. Well duh. The port as far as I have played is well done. And it's still a great game, of course the models aren't on the level of 2022 games. It doesn't pretend to be a 2022 game. It's difficult. It doesn't have check points. It doesn't hold your hand. And I consider that to be a good thing. One other thing: releases done after LRG would be interesting as well. After LRG released those Star Wars games, physical compilations showed up in at least Europe, which were cheaper and had 2 games on cart. I didn't bite originally, and I'm glad I didn't. So how often does this happen? Not that I have anything against it, but they should be up front with it. And I would even love a re-release of the first LRG-Shantae game, because it has gotten so expensive (I was stupid enough to buy a copy lol) |

I might also add scores for the original release of games as well. You are right about some re-releases getting shafted because they are old games. I definitely got that vibe from the poor scores for very good retro games like Zombies Ate My Neighbors and Turok 2, which were 80-90% positive review types of games during their original release but <60% on the Switch. I've played Zombies Ate My Neighbors on the Switch and it's basically the exact same as the SNES release, outside of the annoying border they added to the screen for this release. Seems like re-releases are fairly rare of LRG games on Switch, but can happen. I never mind when games later get a broader physical release. Celeste is one game getting a re-release this year by fangamer, which includes a nice collector's edition for only $64. There are also a good number of LRG games that had releases in other regions and can be imported at more reasonable prices - such as Grandia HD. |

Originally I wanted to get that Collector's Edition, but they were even too cheap to put an actual CD in the package, so I would be paying premium for an art book. I already own the Japanese release, so I'm good. Reminds me of the Pix'n Love release of Young Souls, which even includes a 2 CD soundtrack. And just today I figured that the 2 CD soundtrack was a FREE PRE-ORDER BONUS in Japan. And I got it from there for 500 Yen (4 bucks). And the Pix'n Love release wants 80 Euro-bucks. What a rip off. |

Some big, welcome LRG news. The short of it is...
* LRG is looking to greatly reduce their time to ship. * More investments in infrastructure and staffing to keep up with demand. * Games will no longer include the free trading card for orders after 4/1/23. I've never cared for the trading cards and lost or thrown away most of mine over the years anyway. I know some people love those things, but LRG has stated that the trading cards play a big role in adding weeks or even months to shipping times of standard editions, so doing away with them makes sense. * They plan on standardizing collector's editions, using a clamshell design for most (but not all) of them. Looks solid. I like a lot some of LRG's variety of collector's editions, but they do have a problem with having way too many different designs, which makes it hard to find protective cases and clearly adds to LRG's production times. * You should get a $5 off coupon if you subscribe to their e-mail list. * LRG plans to open a European affiliate, based out of Sweden in 2023. Should reduce costs for European LRG fans, I would think. https://limitedrungames.com/blogs/ne...itiatives-2023 Quote:

Just a heads up - VGP Canada has a big re-stock of many LRG games up. Quite a few really good ones too. Great company, pay no taxes ordering from the U.S. and you can get free shipping. Please note 1 CAD is only about 73 cents USD, so the prices I list are much cheaper in USD than CAD.

Mushihimesami - 65 CAD Mushihimesami Arcade Accessory Peripheral - 60 CAD Dawn of the Monsters - 55 CAD Sol Cresta Dramatic Edition - 70 CAD Raiden 30th Anniversary - 75 CAD About $235 USD total. Cuphead is one of the best indie games of this generation. Unfortunately, the only collector's edition released in North America is $200. LRG's Japan affiliate SuperDeluxe is releasing a really cool collector's edition in a month. I ordered it from Amazon Japan for just over $50 shipped. Also nice that all the DLC is also included on the game cart. Really looking forward to this release.

Had 3 orders, the 2nd one arrived a few days ago, sigh. The last 2 were on hand for probably 1 month. I wonder what I got. Last year all I got was quite rare ones (chance of 24% or less), but not really ones that I wanted. - Ape Out (Uncommon) - Red Strings Club (Uncommon) - Layers of Fear Legacy (Rare) - Carrion (Uncommon) - realMYST (Uncommon) Especially the Collector's Editions were just crap. I ordered one CE twice, and 2 blind ones. And I got exactly that CE that I ordered twice already as one of the blind ones too. |

They blocked me on Twitter, because I told them they shouldn't block their customers (they were doing it in mass numbers) because it is a bad look for a company. Then they blocked me LoL!
Oh well, some people have really thin skin. |

Rivals of Aether (Common) Return of the Obra Dinn (Common) One Step From Eden (Common) I was even actually thinking about Return of the Obra Dinn in the last few days, because I figured that the developer of that one was the fantastic developer of Papers, Please. I'm not mad, I also finally got the 3DS collection too, that one makes me happy. |

I suppose the good thing about Switch blind boxes is if you really don't want the games you received, you should have little problem turning around and selling it for at least about what you paid (or more) on Ebay. Even the non-numbered LRG games rarely go for below the $35-40'ish you pay for the blind boxes. That isn't really the case with LRG games for other consoles, which can be worth well below the blind box prices. In hindsight, I probably should have grabbed a half dozen or so blind boxes. |
