I wonder if Mail Campaigns have any effect on the Studios?
I agree, sometimes beggars can't be choosers. Paramount seem to have given up on releasing catalogue product at the moment, so that leaves licencees. It's not a highly regarded title, though it does have a bit of a cult reputation so there's a possibility that Criterion or Eureka might release it, but other than that Olive are the only other label that release Paramount product (Kino only releases them if they've never been on DVD before which counts Popeye out).

Cool! I wonder if this might mean that there is a BR in the works? I found a really decent quality BR "Fan Edition" of this - that might mean someone did at least a 2K scan... maybe... sorta...

I am not sure about that. They made the soundtrack last year too on Vinyl so I guess it sold well enough for a deluxe edition.

They have also remastered the score from John Carpenter's Christine and are putting it on blue vinyl the 29th this month.

Does the DVD really now come in a package which looks like a can of spinach?
Mine was the original Paramount release with the blue movie poster.

If anyone is in LosAngeles we will be screening Popeye a week from tuesday at a The Chinese theatre(where Popeye premiered back in 1980)
And will have a premovie Q&A with Paul Dooley, Roberto Reed Altman, music producer Bruce Robb.
And your choice of a hamburger or cheeseburger 🍔 to enjoy during the movie
In honor of Wimpy.

The movie will be presented on DCP.

That sounds awesome. If I was in the area I would definitely go. I actually just watched my DVD with my son a couple weeks ago. Great movie.

The fact there is a DCP now, makes me hopeful we will see a Blu-ray in the near. Future

Yes is it. Release with an Can of Spanach DVD cover. I own mine with the blue background and include with an Scene Selection insert inside too. I bought it way back to 2003 when Popeye DVD release coming out.

Besides Popeye, how I want Club Paradise so bad and retire my DVD. The cast (especially Eugene Levy and Rick Moranis) is so good in this campy film.

Apparently 2019 is the 90th Anniversary of the Popeye, so it would be very nice of them if they released the 1980 Popeye movie to celebrate - but I haven't heard any news of it yet.

The HD version looks really sharp on Apple TV - now we need it in disc. Hopefully the Paramount iceberg is melting for 2020.
