Default Bringing Out the Dead

Anyone else a big fan of this film? I was thinking about it the other day and it has to be one of my favorite movies from the 1990s. It is a beautiful looking film and I would love to see it on blu some day, despite it being a huge flop.

I think it's a pretty underrated film, not very commercial and pretty bleak from what I remember, so I can see why it has it's detractors.

Loved all aspects from casting to soundtrack, the punk soundtrack? Awesome. Marty know what the fcuk is cool, he's always on top of shit.

Wish Paramount (I think?) would pony up and just release this one.

Default Totally agree!

One of my favorite Scorsese films. They really need to put his lesser known stuff out on blu. This, Kundun, Alice Doesnt Live Here Anymore, and of course After Hours. Really such a great untapped reservoir of classics. Hope they'll hurry up!

It baffles me when people refer to this as one of Scorseses misfires or just plain bad films.
I thought it was great! Definitely with you folks on hoping for a blu ray release sometime in the near future.
Age Of Innocence and After Hours shouldn't be too far behind as restorations for both of them have been started and finished by now (with Age being the finished one of course)

Seems to me the odds of this film hitting Blu jump way up with the Paramount / Warner deal. Maybe Wolf of Wall Street will get them to port it?

Definitely hoping that this ends up getting the blu-ray treatment it deserves. Criminally underrated.

Yes. Many people thought it was boring. I do not see it.

I just saw this film recently again at a friends house and can't believe it hasn't got a Blu-ray release. I had forgotten it existed.

Any film shot by Robert Richardson should be on blu-ray.

Bringing out the Dead is extremely underrated, and one of my top ten '90's films - this has unfairly been compared to Taxi Driver; even though the two share some similarities (i.e., both characters drive around at night in NYC), IMHO they couldn't be more different. That being said, one of the many reasons I like this film is the late night urban atmosphere - this gives the film a strong pseudo-noir aspect.

Re-watched this a while back, and was very moved by the paramedic main character (Nic Cage) & his empathy for the people on the streets - IMHO, this is definitely NC's best role. The scenes that especially get to me are: when he keeps seeing that young woman's face on random people, and also when all of the "ghosts" come out of the streets in the dream/fantasy sequence. The harsh lighting here is fantastic - really sets the mood.

Also, BOTD boasts an incredible & very diverse soundtrack - who else but Scorsese could use songs by REM, The Clash, The Marvelettes, 10,000 Maniacs, Van Morrison, Stevie Wonder, etc. in the same film and make it work?! This is probably my favorite soundtrack in a Scorsese film....

Also, BOTD is one of my top five favorite Scorsese films - the other 4 are Taxi Driver, Mean Streets, Raging Bull, and King of Comedy.

Agree this needs to be on Blu, sooner rather than later...

Still waiting patiently for a bluray announcement of this film. Truly beautiful (even with it's gritty overtones) and one I would revisit many times in the format. Fingers crossed!

Nothing new to report, but am also still waiting for a Blu announcement for Bringing out the Dead - IMHO this is truly a fantastic film, and it's also Scorcese's best '90's movie (yes, I prefer it to both Goodfellas & Casino)....

Also worth mentioning is how BOTD is truly underrated & even unknown to some extent. I don't remember even hearing about the film when it hit theatres in Fall '99, though I guess it did do poorly. Given that it's such a great film, it's too bad it didn't do better - but, I guess fans were expecting another type of film from Scorsese....

This film needs a BR release! It's in my top ten of all time and expresses something that no other film has touched in my opinion. And it does it with style and brutal honesty. Hope they come to their senses soon. Is there a petition we can sign somewhere? Or someone to berate at the studio?

Petitions won't do a thing. Berating someone at a studio won;t do anything positive.

Did Paramount keep it or was it part of the Warner distribution deal?
