Now that the format war is over Sony must focus it's efforts on upgrading the PS3's remaining Audio deficiencies. This will allow for additional sales and focus on how advanced the PS3 is over the Xdud and stand alone players.

Would you mind listing these audio deficiencies.
It seems those sony engineer folks release updates to make a specific group happy, one update made the video people happy, pissed off the game people, one made the game people happy but the video people pissed off, and one made the audio people happy but pissed everyone else off. So is the vicious cycle of firmware. |

Considering there are 10 million PS3s out there, and I have to imagine a large percentage are used as primary BD players, there's no reason it shouldn't have internal decoding for DTSMA and TrueHD

I feel it should have it also, if it can. (btw it does TrueHD now)
If it can't, will current owners using them as players only upgrade to a standalone in the future? |

Now they've got you by the knutz, and they could just force you to buy a standalone, if you want more features. They simply used all the PS3 owners to drive software sales for all these months. I think there will be no more updates.
![]() It certainly won't hurt movie or game sales, but it could help drive standalone sales and be an act of good faith toward the other manufacturers of standalones. Last edited by jsteinhauer; 02-19-2008 at 05:50 PM. |

This would give an additional advantage because of the sound quality. Game development could be extended to that level creating broader sound realms to be put forth on new games. With all the detail and picture quality why not advance the sound quality

Mmhmm. This is the main reason that, now that the format war is over, specs are finalized, and prices should continue to fall, I'll be doing a lot more research into standalone players. Otherwise I wouldn't have any inclination to replace my PS3.

2. They would likely stick to #1 instead of DTS-MA or TrueHD for games so they can keep the processing for the graphics, physics etc. The compressed formats require additional horsepower from the player .. that isn't an issue with movies but would be for game developers. It's one of the reasons why the 50 GB was important even more so than movies....the audio can be kept in uncompressed LPCM because it has the freeedom of disk space to do so .. without placing an extra burden on the processor for decoding. 3. The 360 HD DVD add-in never supported any HD Audio so yes DTS-MA would be one more thing the PS3 has over that combo in addition to TrueHD and LPCM. And as previously mentioned 7.1 LPCM is already there for games on the PS3. P.S. It's Xbox and 360...your just antagonizing people with the Xdud comment. Please stop. It's unnecessary. Let the facts about the capabilities of the PS3 speak instead. |

You (and I) paid a good buck for our Pioneer receivers to do what little work they're doing. A good bit of the price is in the processing they're not doing, and I would rather trust the processing to the receiver than the player.

Sending the audio to the receiver via bitstream does not increase any detail. If the decoding is done correctly it will sound exactly the same as if the player (PS3) decodes it.
