Hi everyone, I have the Bond 50 box set and was browsing on dvdcompare and just noticed that for some reason, Dr.No single Blu-Ray release has longer image galleries than the Dr. No that is on the Bond 50 set!

"Image Database" picture slideshows:
- "The Filmmakers" (0:47)
- "Portraits" (2:02)
- "Jamaica" (4:51)
- "Pinewood" (1:19)
- "The Lost Scene" (0:27)
- "Ian Fleming – Jamaica" (0:47)
- "Ian Fleming – Pinewood" (0:31)
- "Around the World with 007" (1:43)

Bond 50
"Image Database" picture slideshows:
- "The Filmmakers" (0:32)
- "Portraits" (1:32)
- "Jamaica" (4:36)
- "Pinewood" (1:04)
- "The Lost Scene" (0:12)
- "Ian Fleming – Jamaica" (0:32)
- "Ian Fleming – Pinewood" (0:16)
- "Around the World with 007" (1:28)

I know it’s only image galleries but was just curious why the difference in time lengths as I had heard the discs in Bond 50 were meant to have identical specs/bonus features as the single releases.

I wondered if anyone who owns the film on single release and Bond 50 could compare the running times and see if the single release has more images? I’m just pretty OCD when it comes to special features/having everything on the disc I own and hate the idea of missing out on anything haha

For the sets, I'm after the Connery set but a few questions please:

- Do these have the original theatrical (mono) audio mixes?
- Are these region locked? Am planning to import to the UK as I want the original theatrical audio tracks

Yes, but the versions on all the BDs sound pretty bad. Heavy NR and little dynamics. If you care about the original mono your'e gonna want to mux from another source.

Ditto WB's screw ups with the recent Superman set. They actually used the wrong music recordings for the Superman IV Atmos mix. I mean, thiat's incompetence on a truly epic level.

I don't think there'll ever be definitive editions of the Bond films, which is shocking when you think about it. I don't know what EON is thinking. I thougjt they nurtured and cared for this franchise?

I don’t suppose there was a corrected version?

In many cases, I think it's the DVDs. Using methods I don't think I can talk about here, the audio track(s) are extracted from the DVDs and combined with the video from the blu ray. This is tricky if the video on the bluray isn't exactly the same as the DVD, but even then it can be done. The really hardcore will pull from laserdiscs.

I have a version of The Lord of the Rings (1978) that someone went back to the VHS tape for the audio. For some reason, DVD releases had songs that omitted the ambient sounds during the songs. Someone muxed in the VHS audio and did an excellent job.

I guess I was too vague. You can make it yourself.

For example, I'm trying to figure out if there really are audio problems on Batman The Animated Series (I've checked the episodes mention on this forum, and they sound fine to me). But IF I find a problem, apparently I can buy the DVDs, take audio off of those, and combine with my blu rays.

The problem is, I don't think I can say how to do it on this forum, but it's a very straightforward process in most cases.

I have no such skills, and likely will not acquire them.

More often then not it requires more work then that as you'll encounter frame differences that require more then a simple offset to sync properly.
And for the Bond films specifically, the UE DVDs aren't much of an improvement of the BDs, you'll want to go back to the LDs for most of them.

I don't have Bond 50 Collection, but just checked my single release. On that one, each slideshow starts with a 15-second long introduction/descriptive text slide (Portraits has two such slides, 30 seconds total). As that accounts for the time differences, I must conclude that the Bond 50 set dropped the text slides. I wouldn't say they contain any vital information that isn't covered elsewhere.

It’s funny. After all this time, I finally decided to upgrade my Connery and Moore films that I had on DVD. I just bought the “For Your Eyes Only” BD yesterday and was surprised at how drab looking the picture quality was. Not sure why this movie looked quite poor.

Are we likely to see the entire James Bond collection available on physical 4K UHD Blu-ray anytime soon? I know the Daniel Craig movies are already available and everything else is on 4K Digital (since Dec 2021?). Is it an ownership rights or distribution rights issue as has been the case in the past before all of the Ultimate Edition DVDs were released or is something else preventing this?

Thanks.

No one knows. MGM is a company in shambles and even though they have home video partners they barely release anything. Hopefully someday.
