Hehe...if it's created by a Japanese anime studio of an American character... is it anime? Even the old GI Joe, Transformers series...made by Sunbow in Japan but always wondered, should it be called anime? I know that "GI Joe Sigma 6" was created by Gonzo, "Hulk Vs." by Madhouse.

As for the Asian releases, like the crappy Dimension releases with the bad dub...that's Weinstein's decision. Last edited by kndy; 01-28-2010 at 11:10 PM. |

And yes thank you for pointing out the point i've been making all of this time about the importing issue and with America and Japan being the same region on Blu-ray causing problems. |

It's 2010 now, about 2 years since HD-DVD's defeat and nearly 4 years since Blu-rays market inception and I am still waiting for favrorite anime remasters Elfen Lied, Black Lagoon, Trigun ect. |

Elfen Lied is ADV Films and ADV has had it quite rough these past couple of years such as losing about 30 of their recent series and Funimation rescuing most of them as well as some Geneon series like When They Cry, Shakugan no Shana, Black Lagoon(which you mentioned), Samurai Champloo, and some other ones. So the end result is we really only have Funimation and Bandai supporting anime in America and Funimation's Blu-rays are not exactally what fans want as far as not being able to put Japanese lossless audio on most of their Blu-rays and also some pq issues especially on their upscaled Blu-rays. |

^ I think a recent (disney?) release had a few HD shots of it in a trailer/clip reel. As far as I remember it wasnt a reel for Blu-ray, but just the properties in general. A lot of people hoped this meant it was one of the pieces coming soon, since the shots were shown in HD, but nothing official has been announced as far as I know.

As for ADV or Sentai Filmworks, I did give them a slight nod that if they are going to jump onto Blu-ray, that their release (next week) of "The Skull Man" should be for consideration. But the good news is that there is no anime shortage, there is still a lot of anime being released (especially from FUNimation and Sentai Filmworks) in the US. The fact that we are receiving a good number of titles from the SF, is a good sign that the company formerly ADV, is getting healthier. Now the question is...are people still buying or is everyone depending on Crunchyroll or other streaming sites for their anime? I will say that I was talking to a few of my friends and associates who have written for anime publications and to my shock, many are now preferring their anime via streaming or via netflix and we got into discussions about the new TV sets that will have wireless capability. And there is one thing that they do make a point is that a lot of anime being released are devoid of special features (now they are mostly textless op/ed themes and trailers). Anyway, I know it's difficult to be patient about anime releases on BD since its taking awhile. In some way, it's like 1993 again when we waited for ADV, AnimEigo and Pioneer to release anime on LD. Although the pricing still remains the same (at $29.99 or higher), at least we are getting complete series or a dozen episodes compared to the 1-4 episodes we received on LD back then. |

ADV split up into a handful of smaller companies, Sentai Filmworks being one of them.
Funimation bought out SOME of ADV's old licenses when they were going down hill. But for all intents and purposes, Sentai and a handful of others were created out of former ADV parts. |
