Default Site improvements to help British and German users

I know this is a US site, but it's members are from all around the world. And whereas most parts of the world have access to Blu-ray originally it was only really US and Canada which had any kind of decent Blu-ray sales.

But now I think that has changed. The Blu-ray markets in the United Kingdom, Ireland and Germany, have expanded rapidly. And are now (I think) the biggest markets for Blu-ray movies outside the USA and Canada. So I think more can be done to help these users at Blu-ray.com

A few examples I have thought of are:
  • Release Schedule: Blu-ray movie releases in the USA/Canada and Europe are VERY different. So it would be good to have a release schedule for different areas. Currently I have quite a few Blu-ray film releases in my signature, and as you can see it isn't very long. Now I'm not saying that's all of them, but it wouldn't take very long to do!
  • Top-Sellers Chart: Exactly the same as the US chart, but obviously it would be a bit different.
  • Ratings: I have no idea what a "G" stands for, it wouldn't be very difficult to put other ratings into each movie page.
  • Amazon Links: Just a simple "Pre-order from Amazon UK" button etc below the "Pre-order from Amazon" button .

And that's about it. Other suggestions and comments are welcome. I would be happy to help with any of these suggestions if they get the backing to be implemented into the site.

whats this europe gibberish? do you mean that place we read about in history books? i thought that was just a story to scare conservative children. "Be good, or working socialism will get you".

i think it would be cool to have a link to releases form other regions. then we in N.A. can ***** about the releases we aren't getting. maybe even highlight the releases that are region free so we can import.

Thank you for the feedback. The problem with covering more regions/countries isn't implementing the system (it can be pretty easily extended), but rather to have the time to keep the listings updated with covers/specs for each region/country (I'm guessing they're not always the same). This involves being in contact with the studios in each country, which we just don't have the time to do right now.

We're currently focused on improving the movie section and finally getting the hardware sections online, as well as adding more community-features to the site. However, we've already given the "more regions/countries" idea a lot of thought and have a pretty good idea how we would implement it, so when the time is right we will do it. I guess an alternative option to doing everything ourselves would be to turn the site into a type of Wiki where the users help maintain the data for each country/region, but it feels like too big a project to do right now (we prefer to create our own custom solutions instead of using existing ones).

There's no timeline for when we will begin working on the community-features (it's currently planned for after we get the content-sections done), but in the future we envision transforming Blu-ray.com into a full-fledged community (think Facebook/MySpace but with a purpose ) giving each member their own profile, friends list, guestbook, blog, movie list(s), photo galleries, etc.

There's too many other things that we feel need to be done first, so not any time soon.

Post Question for the Site Itself

Hmm, with that ominous title, it would rouse anyone to believe something fishy is up. But no, I was merely wondering - we are an international site, are we not, members from all over the globe, Blu-ray dominating internationally - then why is the Movies section limited to purely US releases? There are many movies out in other regions not yet in America - say, U-571, Days of Glory, Transformers 1986 - why not include them with a simple region disclaimer?

It's coming

In the end you will be able to choose which country/region you are in/want (can be all) and then everything on the site will be updated accordingly.

It's just that we are extremely busy and we have therefore focused on the US since it's the most important region/country and making a nice site system. When the system is finished we will add other regions
