Robert,

Fantastic choice going with Treasure Planet. I have always loved that movie for the animation and unique route Disney took with the source material. Was good to see another fan out there, considering the reviews of that movie are mixed at best.

Pleasure reading it as always.

I hate to be the one to point this out, but some of the images for this article are totally wrong.

A quick image search on Google reveals that the "Final character drawings" from the film are actually from a DeviantArt fan art page: http://julvett.deviantart.com/gallery/64807 - I'm amazed that can get through.

And the "Czech film poster" is clearly from a different film. Disney's Treasure Planet wasn't directed by Rumen Petkov!

I will make the corrections and thanks. The final character drawings was improperly captioned, I will add the drawings tomorrow, and a few quotes that I have gotten from the artist who did those drawings. As for the poster I'll remove it. It's sometimes difficult to catch everything.

Thanks for the note. I try to post columns on films that are of interest to the readers, this one happened to be a favorite of mine so it was a pleasure to research it. I watched it last night, beautiful transfer, vivid colors, excellent! I don't understand the mixed reviews at all, never did. But to each his own.

Default New Silver Screen Column: Those Magnificent Men

Watch for the new Silver Screen column on "Those Magnificent Men and their Flying Machines" on our front page to be posted either late tonight or on Monday. This was a roadshow Todd-AO release from 20th Century Fox in 1965, and was a reserved-seat-only showing when it premiered. Lots of interesting grapics and stories behind how they filmed and manufactured the planes. Enjoy.

For all Jaws fans, we have the new Silver Screen up. For this column, we have several Jaws experts chiming in and co-writing with me, one who was part of the production of the new extras on the Jaws Blu-ray! Check it out, we have over 100 graphics many behind the scenes!

Just a little tidbit on the Jaws one. The poster you have pictured as the Japanese poster is in fact the poster for the Jaws ripoff, Tintorera.

I posted a pic of the US 1sh for that here,

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...1&postcount=10

This is the Japanese poster for jaws,

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...5&postcount=11

Loved the article!

Thanks Brett. It's hard to confirm some of these international posters, I appreciate the information and of course the compliment. Glad you enjoyed the column. I will make the correction.

Your welcome, the first poster you have pictured is the 1978 reissue poster.

Yes, I remember that poster outside our local theater, it was 2 years before graduation and I remember seeing the film another 2 or 3 times.

The Silver Screen articles are one of my favorite features on this site. The Jaws article brought back memories from when I saw the movie upon its release. The cultural buzz generated by that movie was as exciting as the article indicates. I was surprised to find out that Spielberg was not the originally sought director.

Another "Thank you" for the article on Jaws. Very entertaining. I want to also say, that I do not always take the time to say "thank you" in response to each of your Silver Screen articles... But I do read everyone of them. Another wonderful read. Bravo Robert.

Thanks Pirate King, I appreciate that. It was fun going back to research this one and most of it was written by an expert on Jaws who has written extensively on the title. No need to say thank you each time, I know you're reading them, you're one of my biggest fans:-). Glad you enjoy them!

Writing the column also brought me back to 1975, and I remembered so much about the release.

Great job on the article! I'll still watch the documentary but feel educated already going in!

Thanks for the kind remarks. I have some great titles coming up including some from the Universal Monsters set, the Hitchcock set, Ed Wood, James Bond and more.

Grave Robbers finished shooting in 1957 and was previewed in March of the same year. It didn't receive a full release until 1959 and had been renamed Plan 9 from Outer Space. Plan 9 from Outer Space saw little success and remained in obscurity until 1980, when Michael and Harry Medved named it the "worst movie ever made" in their Golden Turkey Awards book. In their previous book, The Fifty Worst Films of All Time, Michael and Harry had asked readers to vote for their pick as worst film for The Golden Turkey Awards, with Plan 9 from Outer Space winning the vote.
If it was so obscure, then how did readers know to vote for the film? The fact is that it was not obscure. Forest J. Ackerman used to write about "Plan 9 From Outer Space" all the time in "Famous Monsters of Filmland" magazine, largely because it was Lugosi's last screen appearance and it used to play as part of syndicated TV horror film packages all the time. In New York, I believe it used to play on WOR-TV 9. I knew about the film when I was ten years old.

That would be for horror fans and specialty fans, the statement was made about the view of the general public.

I really enjoyed reading the Titanic article but there are a couple of incorrect images.

There are actually production images for the 2012 Titanic mini-series that aired earlier this year.
