I was fortunate enough to see "TWWOTBG", "HTWWW", "Windjammer" and the "pseudo-Cinerama" roadshow presentations of "IAMMMMW, and "2001". It was like The Future. HTWWW is a fantastic blu-ray. Hope the upcoming release is as good (I'll believe it when I see it). Enjoyable article.

(This Is Cinerama)... The photo of Cooper Theater (in Denver) caught my eye. It too went away sometime between my leaving (1986) and returning (1996) to Denver. I didn't realize it went back to the Cinerama days, but I recall catching Amadeus, Blade Runner and a near-empty theater matinee showing of Apocalypse Now, among others that I can't quite put a finger at the moment. First place I ever realized there was such a thing as surround sound (Amadeus, and later Apocalypse Now). Great place.

Thanks very much Robert for this fantastic Cinerama article. I have fond memories of being taken to Cinerama movies on my birthday as a young boy as a special treat. Many of the films I saw, I learned only later were not true Cinerama, but gave me a lifetime addiction to Cinerama and 70mm anyway. I have this blu on my preorder list and cannot wait to screen it. Now where's Brothers Grimm?

Nice article.
The two photographs of roller coasters with the caption "Atom Smasher" are not the roller coaster used in the film, which you correctly point out was the roller coaster at Rockaway's Playland. It looks to me that the photo with the roller coaster on the left is Coney Island's Thunderbolt and the one with the roller coaster on the right is Coney Island's Tornado, both long gone. The Thunderbolt was also used in Annie Hall as the place where Woody Allen's character Alvy supposedly grew up (under). |

Bond article: fun stuff.
I could have sworn that I had read somewhere that Fleming thought that songwriter Hoagy Carmichael should play Bond precisely because he was so average looking. Fleming thought that secret agents need to 'fit in and disappear', not stand out due to their good looks. And while you mentioned that President Kennedy was a fan, a reporter asked him about his favorite books and he specifically identified "From Russia With Love". That greatly increased interest in his books in the U.S., but they were already very well known to readers of Playboy. Most of Fleming's books were serialized in Playboy before being released as hardcovers. In addition to the Bond books, Fleming wrote "Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang" and a travel book called "Thrilling Cities". Quote:

Thanks:-) Yes I do plan on Superman 2, but the industry has changed so that so many new releases are coming out it's difficult to fit it in, but it will be coming. I am glad you enjoyed the articles.

I was checking out "The Beatles' Yellow Submarine" article, and all the images are replaced by images of Singin' in the Rain. Can we get a fix for this? I'd really love to see those Beatles photos!

I just read the new article for Little Shop of Horrors and I found it to be meticulously researched. But I have one gripe with it that can be easily fixed.
You mention in the section about the original ending that the original recalled DVD was released on May 27, 2003. That date is incorrect. The correct date was January 27, 1998. Just wanted you to correct that is all. |

Nicholas, thanks....alot of research goes into these, so you can imagine that at times the wrong date gets in there. It's funny because I used to have that recalled disc before I sold it on Ebay, I think I got around $150 for it. Funny, I wateched the movie tonight with the Director's cut ending, with my mother. Then I showed her the last 20 minutes of the theatrical cut, and we both liked the theatrical cut better, though those "Godzilla" like scenes (I am a big Godzilla fan) are really incredible.
Anyone else subscribed to this thread care to comment on which ending they prefer? Thanks for the correction Nicholas. Quote:
