Hello. I joined relatively recently, mainly to have a solution to organizing my collection. I've scanned most of my collection, setting aside the titles that wouldn't scan and didn't appear to be in the database. Now with the majority of my collection done, I wanted to get these other stacks of releases out of my way and reintegrated into my collection. So I started looking into how to add them. I've read through some of this thread (it's six years old and very long now!) and it appears that I need to post a bunch of times before I can do anything myself. (I wish this were clearer.) So I guess I'll need to poke around the forums and try to think of something to say. This is post #1.

Most of my titles not already in the database are budget or niche releases, so it's not that surprising that they're missing. A few missing items are really surprising, though. Probably the biggest surprises to me were the two "Best of Hitchcock" DVD box sets I bought many years ago. Hitchcock titles have been repackaged and reissued in different formats and variations, but these were widely available sets from Universal. I'm sure I could just add the individual titles to my collection, but it would be nice to have the set information in there, too, as I've seen for many other sets. If anyone who can would want to go ahead and add them, I'll put some details below. You can find them on Amazon, too--I checked. Thanks.

The few people who 100% know aren't saying. The rest of us have generally deduced that:

New members used to be able to add/edit immediately.

Sometime in the last few years that changed.

For awhile it seemed to be 30 days from your join date + 10 forum posts.

Then it seemed to change to around 30 days from your join date + approximately 10 forum posts. Which appears to be where it's at now. So sometime next month you should be able to add the titles you need.

In the meantime, feel free to post more here and if someone can help you then I'm sure they will.

Also, there are a few titles in the system (usually from early on in this site's existence, before concrete steps were made to prevent it) without a UPC, or with an incorrect UPC (wrong number of digits, reversed digit(s), etc.). So there's a very small chance that one or more that you're looking for could already be here, with an error.

Hello. I followed a similar path, about 5 years ago, and can attest to how great it can be to have one's collection here, but how reaching that point can take some effort.

I, too, wish that that the exact requirements for new members were clearer, but unfortunately the powers that be want it at least a bit obscured. Based on multiple reports, in this thread and in others, then I firmly believe that for awhile it was 30 days from your join date + 10 forum posts. But now it's around 30 days from your join date + approximately 10 forum posts (though of course both of those are only my own opinion/observations).

Personally, I'd advise you to post about a dozen times in the next few weeks, and keep checking regularly for when you're able to access those privileges.

While I didn't start submitting to the database here until a little over 5 years ago, in that time I have submitted a lot, particularly in regard to DVD's. My personal belief is that there was a lot done to add DVD's to begin with, but some releases fell through the cracks, and others were more "budget or niche", as you say. And once the DVD section was begun then it generally relied on the interests/whims of regular members as far as what to add.

Unfortunately, not everyone who is a member catalogs their collections here, and some who do add/edit little. So it's possible that some labels/genres appeal more to the people willing to put in the work. Additionally, there are a few titles in the system (usually from early on in this site's existence, before concrete steps were made to prevent it) without a UPC, or with an incorrect UPC (wrong number of digits, reversed digit(s), etc.). So there's a very small chance that one or more that you're looking for could already be here, with an error.

That all being said, collections can be especially challenging for a few reasons. There are a few rarely used entry fields that need to be employed, sometimes one or more of the individual movies are not in the database. But even if they are in the database then they may have one or more technical specs. different than those on the individual release(s), such as Audio, Aspect ratio, subtitles, etc.

After posting this then I'll work on submitting both of those you posted. They can be improved later, but it'll get things started.

Edited: Both have been submitted. There were a couple of time-consuming aspects, such as figuring out what Seasons the episodes from the Alfred Hitchcock Presents Volumes were from, but I got most of the important info in. The next big step will be ascertaining if any/some/all of the DVD's were released as stand-alones, with the exact same specs. If so, whether they're in the database already.

They've now been approved, though the # of Seasons is off on both, unfortunately, as well as the # of movies (I'll work on that). Covers are pending.
