It all works out in the end...he shouldn't have sued and he waited waaaay too long to do it.

It's kind of like when Paul McCartney tried to change the writing credits on his live albums to McCartney/Lennon JUST to make sure people knew who wrote what, like anyone cared and all the hardcore Beatles fan already knew. This is the type of thing which makes Paul unlikeable.

I love the theme by Monty Norman and love John Barry's music.
To make it clear, John Barry did NOT sue. Monty Norman brought lawsuits against publications that claimed that Barry composed the James Bond Theme.

I poked around a bit. According to this thread, it looks like there are four Connery/Moore Bond BDs which stem from 4K scans including The Spy Who Loved me, Dr. No, You Only Live Twice, and Diamonds Are Forever. The screencaps look pretty good on these.

I just checked those other titles on caps-a-holic.

In addition to TSWLM, YOLT and DAF definitely do appear to be from newer masters than the DVD.

However, Dr. No is pretty obviously the old DVD master, they look identical, except for a slight uptick in detail on the BD due to resolution:

It's from an old 4K scan done in the mid-00s. The first three Connery films, along with at least "Moonraker" (I have no clue about the rest of the pre-Brosnan films besides "The Spy Who Loved Me" being much later) were from 4K scans but they suffer from the "Lowry process" (sharpening, frozen grain, etc).

I thought Live and Let Die was from a 4K scan. The PQ is more than pretty decent on the Blu-ray.

Watched the film yet again last night.

The original Lowry 4K nine were the six Connerys, OHMSS, LALD and Moonraper. TSWLM was given a brand new transfer for the BD which bypassed the terribly sharpened Lowry master. GoldenEye's BD also swerved the Lowry master with its weird zoomed transfer but instead of doing a new transfer they resorted to an older master with lots of DNR.

Some of those Lowry ones got tweaked quite a bit though and not just from the UE DVD to the BD, if I recall correctly the R1 DVDs were released several months later than the R2 versions and had some noticeable revisions (MGM did that more than once, I'm reminded of the SE DVDs for The Terminator). Not "new transfers" as such but the existing work fiddled with some more, especially to change the colour timing which proved very controversial on titles like YOLT. And I think Thunderballs changed to a cooler looking version which had a lot more negative damage left in. It's a pity that capsaholic haven't got the R1 UEs up alongside the R2 ones.

That looks awesome. Sure wish it had a 4K disc inside. LOVE that you get the dragon.

Wow, it didn't take long for the obligatory 4K comment.

For such an iconic movie as this getting released in a tat-laden set as that then you bet your ass it's gotta be UHD. I've bought these movies so many times that I don't want the same old (nearly 15 years!) disc dressed up in new duds, there has to be something new in terms of the content itself.

You don't have to buy it. For years, titles have been rereleases in different editions and in some cases multiple steelbooks.

Sure. But it's certainly disheartening at this point in time energy is being put towards yet another rehash of desperately old content -- most Bond fans are desperate for a fresh 4K release that's long overdue.

I would say that it's hyperbole to say that most Bond fans are desperate for 4K.

4K is too niche. "Most" fans are casual and content with what they own, or ok with streaming.

Most Bond fans who are still buying discs are desperate for 4K. How many people are there that a) would be interested in a huge Dr. NO set and b) don't already own the movie on BD? I'm guessing not that many.

That's still debatable and the reason why these products keep getting released is variety of reasons from completists to steelbook collectors etc.

I love that Collector's box for Dr. No but, like Geoff, I don't want a new suit on old material. It's 4K or bust. I think I may even skip a Remastered Blu-ray if one ever comes. This isn't 4K "snobbery" - it's true fans wanting only the best and the best right now is 4K.

Blu-ray.com: where asking for 4K discs of one of the most popular and profitable film franchises of all time is simply asking too much.

Every Eon Bond film is being screened from 4K DCPs in cinemas across the UK right now. I can't not think that a 4K box set isn't in the offing on the 60th anniversary.

It's not even that people are clamoring for 4k, we all know it's going to happen, 100% assured. It's perfectly normal to not want to buy a product we already own simply for a fancy box and postcards when the upgrade is right around the corner...
