My current Dell computer desktop is from 2015 running windows 10 fast enough to where I have no need to buy a newer computer. I’ve had computers before the pentium cpu was created and I will hold on to this Dell. Right now I’m thinking about buying the same model Dell as a backup in case it dies down the road.
Not thrilled that Microsoft can’t make the older home computers (not used for business) that have plenty of life left and still has value to run it. |

Its a business decision on what you intend to support to make business life easier. With my current line of work I have 0 issues with the TPM requirements for Windows 11. Hell my i9 custom built at home fully supports 11 but I refuse to move off windows 10. Its the same with processors that can or cannot run a OS. MS chose a starting point and built the OS from their. You may agree or disagree with it but thats how all products worldwide are handled. Right now EOL on 21H2 Windows 10 is June 2024 you have another 2 years before you have to upgrade. EOL for all Windows 10 products is October 14, 2025. You really have 3 years before buying a new PC. Anything you buy at that time will support Windows 11. So I dont see what the issue is. Noone is forcing anyone to update anything now. In 2025 ur shit is 10 years old time to upgrade anyways. |

I agree with what you said with a few concerns….
Computers are more prevalent now than they were when Xp/Vista we’re introduced so moving on to the next gen windows will have more of a disrupted footprint on the world than back then. So….in this day and age I would like to see a trade in (recycle) offer when windows 10 shuts down. Of course what I would like to see probably won’t happen. |

Amazon and some other dealers now have the ASROCK TPM2-S module in stock since the automated Chinese robotic factory ran some more TPM 2.0 security modules off (They only cost $17.41 at Amazon for the official ASROCK brand that works with any ASROCK motherboard that uses 17 pins. Also called 18 pin module by some people.). This was back ordered for several months. I just upgraded the TPM security chip on two separate year 2015 ASROCK X99 motherboards (One mine and another a family members). Once I got the cover removed on the PC it took less then 5 minutes to unplug the old TPM version 1.2 module and plug the new TPM version 2.0 module. BIOS and Windows showing the TPM 2.0 module fully working.
So now when running the PC health check app in Windows 10 professional 64 bit, I pass on TPM 2.0 since that is now enabled, and I also have secure boot on the motherboard. But the reason I cannot install Windows 11 is because it says “The processor isn’t currently supported for Windows 11”. The processor on the ASROCK X99 motherboard is Intel Core i7-5960X CPU at 3Ghz. Therefore, unless Microsoft lowers the CPU requirements to include my 7 year old processor, I will not be able to run Windows 11 unless I upgrade my motherboard, CPU, and build a new desktop computer. So, my computer is now up to meeting the security requirements with TPM 2.0 and secure boot, but now I fail because Microsoft refuses to support the CPU and X99 motherboards. According to Microsoft Windows 10 will officially reach the end of support on October 14th 2025 (that is when it’s 10 year support is scheduled to end unless it gets extended to Jan of 2026). Then there will be no more Windows security updates for Windows 10 and everyone will need to upgrade to Windows 11 or maybe Windows 12. I plan on waiting until the year 2024 to upgrade my PC, then in theory I will be able to go to Windows 12. Microsoft might be coming out with a new improved operating system every 3 years and each new operating system having 10 years worth of support with free Windows updates. https://www.asrockrack.com/general/p...p?Model=TPM2-S https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XPR5943/ |

I have it on my current PC. It feels lighter than Windows 10. But of course, I would ultimately like to run Linux Mint. Sadly, programmers and devs do not want to support mainstream applications on Linux. Really too bad there is no way to rip out all of the telemetry/data collection stuff in Windows.

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/li...rise-ltsc-2019 I really like this edition as it doesn't have bloatware (it's like 7 with a 10 skin, imo) so I'll stick with it until 2029, and then? Who knows. I'm still skeptical about 11 so perhaps I'll try 12 assuming it's out by then, or a Linux distro. Zorin and Elementary distros look very good for newcomers like myself. |

I'm a bit stubborn and haven't used one of their products since version 7 years ago. I really enjoyed that operating system. Chrome os is just so minimalistic, convenient, and efficient. But at times I miss being able to play video games, watch movies, etc. It also seems like forever ago since I've used a desktop pc.

But, Chromebooks are getting better and more up to date so that issue should be fixed as technology progresses. |

I am still using Windows 7 myself, I tried Windows 10 when it came out on a brand new Dell that I had purchased, once I downloaded the free Windows 10 at the time, it fried my system and couldn't salvage it. Thankfully Best Buy allowed me to return it, they said they had several other people have the same thing happen to them.
I had saved my older Dell from 2007, reformatted it and loaded up a fresh Windows 7 and it has worked fine ever since. Eventually I know I will need to get on the Windows 11 ship, and that will mean using a current Outlook (mine is very old but does the job). If they could make Windows 11 look like Windows 7 I would probably be more willing to use 11 on my next PC. |

Now, you probably could make 11 make it look like 7 as there are programs to do so though it has other issues, mainly restrictions and other limitations that previous Windows OSes didn't have. ![]() https://www.startisback.com/#download-tab |

I personally have not had any issues with 10 (specifically LTSC edition).
There was the issue of constant annoying updates and unwanted bloatware (Windows Store and its apps, Edge, and Cortana), but after changing to this noncommercial version it's been a breeze. Maybe I'll try 11 when they release 11 LTSC. |
