Bloody hope so. Why in God's name do Fox lock catalog titles, I can't see the sense in it.

Apparently Fox tries to support their International branches....?!

I think that Region Coding either goes away with time or it will come a normal standard; personally I hope of course that it goes away but somehow the Studios feel safer with the Region Code.

That's exactly it. They don't want people in Oz or the UK importing cheaper US discs.

Assume all Fox titles will be locked by default

Whatever happened to free trade and the global marketplace?

Hollywood may want to use regions, but do I hope the European studios, indies & distributors don't . That would make the more obscure European releases more widely available.

IMO region locking = corporate greed. Let the free market thrive. (Don't bother with a reply, I know the arguments that Hollywood studios use for region coding. Contracts, licenses, etc.) :P

Because they can't sell it where they don't own it, and they want to protect the profits of their own international divisons.

I'm not asking them to sell it where they don't own it, just to unlock the region code.

(Actually, I don't really care about Hollywood's region locking marketing scheme. I'm more concerned about the availability of non-American titles.)

There are region free hacks in the UK, just like in the early days of DVD.

http://www.dvdlibrary.co.uk/multiregion.htm

I guess you guys in the US never worried about this sort of thing.

Personally I just bought a US PS3, as it's multi region for games, I can play all US Blu-rays, plus most UK Blu-rays are region free, so the best of both worlds.
