Default Yoshiaka Kawajari

Any fans of this awesome anime master? i've been a fan since i rented Lensman and Wicked City on video in junior high and dug Ninja Scroll with Highlander.

I think Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust could be his best film.

I believe it is Yoshiaki (sorry for nit-picking)

Kawajiri is my favourite anime director after Osamu Dezaki. I adore his sense of style and his penchant for violence and everything seedy. His Blue hue is instantly recognizable and character design utterly gorgeous.
Also not a lot of people know this (or regularly talk about at least), but he is also a highly skilled and accomplished animator, having done key & in-between animation for the likes of Future Boy Conan, Record of Lodoss War, Metropolis, and the more recent animated tour de force known as Redline.

Ninja Scroll whilst an obvious choice probably remains my preferred piece of Kawajiri work. But honestly anything he has sat his directors glove upon or done scripting/ storyboarding for is pretty much golden in my book (Goku Midnight Eye, Demon City Shinjuku, Cyber City Oedo 808, Wicked City, Vampire Hunter D, The Cockpit, Neo Tokyo, Tetsuwan Birdy, Bio Hunter, A Wind Named Amnesia, etc).

His output has waned in recent years but he has certainly already cemented his place as one of the greatest talents within the industry.

It's a crime against humanity we don't have more Kawajiri on Blu-ray, let alone DVD. Urban Vision be damned.

Big fan of his as well. I think I still have my vhs of Ninja Scroll and Wicked City in one of my storage bins. Would love to see the latter make it to bd.

Agree that we need more Kawajiri on BD. Fate has smiled upon us because we'll be getting Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust this year. It isn't Kawajiri's most entertaining or interesting film, but it's probably his best overall in quality.

Ninja Scroll looks amazing on blu-ray, fans of Kawajiri should definetly get it. Like Car III mentions ... Bloodlust will be coming soon on blu-ray by Discotek which I'm also looking forward to. The only thing that worries me is the there is no HD transfer available like it was for Ninja Scroll, so will Discotek be making their own?

And if there is one more Kawajiri release on blu-ray on my wish list it's Wicked City. Watched it on DVD a few days ago and it's still enjoyable as the first time I watched it back in the 90's. The female spider demon at the beginning always blows my mind.

He certainly has his own style and you know when you are watching a Kawajiri anime. You can't miss his short on The Animatrix.

But I wouldn't lose any sleep if Highlander never made it to blu-ray.

It already has ... but it's in France, region locked and not the director's cut

I'm hoping Discotek will be making their own HD transfer, but they've been short on details so far. Even though it hasn't had an HD transfer yet, I imagine there is the potential for a really sharp one to be made.

I agree about Wicked City. Don't think it's a very good movie, but would like to have it on Blu-ray, nonetheless.

(Tee-hee, Car III. That's a typo I like.)
