Yeah the 3D picked up as the movie went on and became more action-oriented, so I guess it wasn't bad in that regard. But the movie really nose-dived after the first act. It sets things up well but I found it grating by the end, and ultimately it just felt incomplete. It's not getting a sequel so we're just stuck with a first act that goes nowhere, a la Golden Compass. Oh well. Nice A/V so I'll keep it, but I doubt I'll rewatch it anytime soon. Disappointing.

I actually felt because she wasn't facing off against any known rivals in the skate ring, that those action scenes, while well-choreographed, lost emotional impact, in that I felt it didn't matter if she won or lost those matches, nothing was ever really on the line in them. If she wins, it didn't really matter in the end. That hurt the story IMO. It was mostly a motivation for her, but not nearly as important as her romantic interest, which was her main motivation in the film.

But yeah, thanks for the news on this film not getting a sequel. I would have been very surprised if it did. Cameron is too invested in Avatar 2 at the moment.

Well to be fair her opponents in the motor ball tryouts are trying to kill her, so if she loses, she dies. Those are the stakes there, so it does matter in the sense that she is fighting for her "life".

No confirmation yet. I believe the movie set still remains in Austin, Texas and if this ever gets torn down then my guess it won't have a sequel.

James Cameron owns the movie rights to making and I bet it all depends if he can talk someone into financing it. (Though I assume he is really involved with Avatar right now)

If a sequel was dead in the water Jon Landaeu and Rosa wouldn't be hyping up the fans to ask for a sequel. The fact two of the biggest people attached to the movie keep chatting about it to me proves that it isn't dead.

I hope we find out something, one way or another, no later then February 14th. It would be nice to get something official no more then a year after the movie's theatrical US release.

Same with the CGI fakeness of Jeff Bridges in Tron Legacy 3D.
I think that's because those were all people and our brains specialize in recognizing human faces. Alita's not really supposed to pass as a person so your brain isn't hyper focused on how her robotic face maybe doesn't look quite right compared to a real robotic face.

Nonethless I agree the CGI on Alita was very well done!
