Acclaimed writer-director Taika Waititi brings his signature humor and pathos to JOJO RABBIT, a World War II satire that follows a lonely German boy (Roman Griffin Davis as Jojo) whose world view is turned upside down when he discovers his single mother (Scarlett Johansson) is hiding a young Jewish girl (Thomasin McKenzie) in their attic.

JOJO RABBIT and its ensemble cast have garnered attention in the 2020 awards season earning a Best Picture Academy Award® Nomination, a Golden Globe® Award nomination for Best Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy, a Critics’ Choice Award nomination for Best Picture, and a Screen Actors Guild Award® nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. Star Roman Griffin Davis, whose first-ever acting role was ‘Jojo,’ won a Critics’ Choice Award for Best Young Actor, as well as a nomination for a Golden Globe® in the category of Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy. Additionally, Scarlett Johansson has received an Academy Award® Nomination for Best Supporting Actress, and BAFTA and Screen Actors Guild Award® nominations for her performance as ‘Rosie.’ And at the film’s helm, writer, director, actor and producer Taika Waititi has received Academy Award® Nominations for Adapted Screenplay and Best Picture (with Carthew Neal), as well as nominations from the Directors Guild of America, the Writers Guild of America, the Producers Guild of America, and BAFTA (Adapted Screenplay). Earlier this year, the film was honored at the AFI Awards, making it onto AFI’s list of the Top 10 Movies of the Year for 2019. And the film also won TIFF’s highly acclaimed Grolsch People’s Choice Award, while Waititi garnered the Ebert Director Award at the festival’s tribute gala awards event.

Day one!!!! I loved this movie! Probably some of the best visual story telling moments I have seen in a while. Also, has one of my favorite lines of the whole year.

What saved this release was the awards consideration. Otherwise, it would’ve been another canceled Fox release.

Possibly but right now Taika's in Hollywood's good graces with stuff like Thor and Mandalorian and the What We Do In The Shadows TV series.

I am often wary of child led films but both leads were excellent here as were much of the supporting cast. Another excellent Rockwell supporting character with far more depth to him than you'd expect and Johansson doing more than straight drama very well too.
I think one of the most important points of the film is the way the mother doesn't admonish her son but is trying to help him find the right path which the girl also tries to do.

The movie is funny, amusing, sad, heartbreaking and finally uplifting. Of the nominated films I've seen: Joker, The Irishiman, Once Upon A Time and Parasite, this film is the one I've liked the most and by a wide margin.

I mean also being a top 5 film 2k19 didn't hurt. Plus it made $45M on a $14M budget.

Ready or Not worked on a $6M budget and went on to make $57M in revenue worldwide. Actually more successful than this.

But you have to factor the director, the top name actors and the awards recognition this has behind it that the other did not have.

It finally showed up at my local AMC as a part of their Best Picture reshowing. Liked it, funny and charming with good heart. Almost like a kids' movie with the imaginary character of Hitler and other childish pretensions. I'd give Parasite the nod over this one. As much fun as it was, I don't know that it screams Oscar worthy to me really. I like Waititi’s quirky charm though, you can always tell a film he has directed by it's feel and style and his Hitler really made this for me.

Anyone know the stats for the digital code? Where it redeems in Canada and what resolution? I don't have a 4k BluRay player but I have a 4k TV now. I've been getting 4k movies on Google Play and it would be great if the code was 4k.
